Where to Eat in Edinburgh Advice Pls
Thanks for replying to this posting.
Do you know if Ciao Roma on South Bridge is any good?
http://www.citikey.com/business/1007608 ... 5&total=12
I can't find much out in the Web about Gordon"s Trattoria apart from this http://www.citikey.com/business/1007526 ... =1&total=1 which doesn't say much and shows Odd Bins wine store in the picture..
Is Giulianos at Union Place far away? and how long would it take to walk or would I really need a taxi to get to the Tattoo entrance?
http://www.giulianos.co.uk/
I take it that Giulianos and Al Fresco which is also on Union Place is the same chain.
Which out of these would you say is best?

Giulianios is pretty good (I've only been to the one in Leith)... although Union Street is a fair walk from the Castle. The Calamari starter is great, but then I do like squid. I would go just for the squid.
It depends on what kind of 'Italian' you are after... if it's a traditional one then Gordons will fit the bill.... If it's a 'pizza' italian then Pizza Express do great pizza's, their salads are fantastic, and do good quality olives to nibble on. They are in a different league to your pizza hut places.. so don't compare them to that type of thing as the menu and setting is more classy.
Another pizza place would be Mamma's in the grassmarket... walkable from the Castle... bit more studenty, but good pizza.
There are a few other Italian places at the West End, which is probably more walking distance from the Castle than Guilianios....
If you were to walk down Victoria Street, there's mix of places in a small space. Howies, Mason Bleu (French), Indian, Mexican... no Italian I don't think though.
Just bite the bullet and book one...

*bump*
Heard mixed reviews about the Witchery lately.
Is it still a nice place for a spot of lunch or is there somewhere else that's top of the tree these days in Edinburgh??
Cheers!
Dave.

Re: Where to Eat in Edinburgh Advice Pls
4 year bumpage - nice
Ed and I had steaks in Harvey Nics for lunch once (quite a few years ago so no laughing
). Wasn't too pricey and good food/view.
Cafe Royal is ace on West Register street. Amazing building, great food, but it's even more well known for the oyster bar.
A Room in the West End is pretty good too, downstairs from Teuchters on William Street.
The Tower is great also.
What sort of food are you after?

Nice romantic steak at Harvey Nics.... lol
No real preference for the sort of food tbh... it just has to be awesome and ideally in some nice surroundings in the centre of town.
(I'll get back to you about the Gites later too btw... just need to have a proper chat with SWMBO!!)

212121212121212121 is meant to be good, but IMO the best food in town is down in Leith. Wishart is there, Kitchin is there .. and my personal favourite, the Plumed Horse is there.
La Garrigue is ok (Jeffrey Street) but that's more like Franco peasant food. Never been to Kitchin's new place called Castle Terrace round the corner from the NCP by the castle, mainly as Kitchin has stayed in the Leith premises.
With Tom's suggestion of the Tower, just be aware that its the same company as the Witchery (the James Thompson collection) so could also be off the boil (and I always found it the weakest one of the three of his.)
