Duck tape... genius. ABZ weekend saved at least. Gonna let the hood dry out for the rest of the week and then stick some treatment on it at the weekend.

Then I'll try to replicate it in my garage to see if I can fiddle it good.

Temp fix sometimes is open the leaky side door and pull up on the glass a bit, should move 1-2mm up. (Don't pull too hard or it'll come out!) job is a carrot, but only for a bit until it settles back down again

Went down to McArthur Glen outlet today and bought some tent waterproofer from one of the outdoor/camping stores. Bargain reduction, 300ml down to £3.95.... NikWax Tent & Gear Proofer.... water based spray. Says it's enough for a 2 man tent, so should be plenty.

Will give it a bash tonight, as it says you can apply it when the fabric is wet/damp and then air it until dry (might use the hairdryer gently to assist).

If I open the door, I can manage to shut the window a further 1mm using the winder. Not possible to do when the door is shut 1st. Will see if that helps any.

OK... hood had dried out, so before applying the proofer I did some testing with the hood off the car....

does the below pic constitute failure of the seal?

Image

You are looking at the front of the passenger side. I applied water to the area above the seal, taking care not to drop water on the seal that would run below. 5mins later, the water had made it's way to the canvas below the seal which, when the hood is fitted, is inside the car. This is where it was flooding from the other day. At no point did water trickle down the outside of the seal

You can see the ridge on the rubber seal, and originally I thought the water was getting in here (ie between window & seal).. but this test seems to show that its doesn't matter how tight the window fit, as the water ingress is from under the seal.

Agree ?

I've now proofed it and will check again when dried out again.

If it fails again, do you reckon I tell MMC my findings an get them to re-seal or provide replacement hood. Seems like a failure to me.

Yes and I'd make them aware there is an issue sooner rather than later too
