I suggest that a foam filter on a Yota will do just fine if the installer remembers to oil it... FYI Andy's was bone dry when I looked at it.jke11y wrote:Wonder how my car has got through the last 22k milesed wrote:How come?Gareth wrote:After much research yesterday, induction is really to be avoided.![]()

Do a search for "MIL" on SELOC and look for posts related to 111R and Exige.jke11y wrote:Wonder how my car has got through the last 22k milesed wrote:How come?Gareth wrote:After much research yesterday, induction is really to be avoided.![]()
Put it this way, I just emailed a guy selling a ITG asked him about the MIL.
He said...
"Hi Gareth,
Adding the ITG on some 111r's does indeed trigger the MIL because it thinks the engine is running lean. It did on mine for the first 500 or so miles and then the ECU seemed to 'learn' the increase in airflow. I'm going back to the stock airbox box because I just found it too noisy in conjunction with my exhaust on long journeys."
i dont see the point of the air filter being changed.
we drive the cars coz they are fun to drive and they go so well - proper sports cars - not some tarted up corsa or saxo
imho
i changed the exhaust to something louder coz i couldnt hear the revs when the roof was off and the sun was shining on the dash so couldnt see the change up light - didnt know when to change up (which is important on the yota with the narrow high cam rev range)

Wasn't the outcome of Andy's problem that it was nothing to do with the filter anyway? Besides, there are plenty of reported problems that may be due to filters so I wouldn't bother, all it noticeably does is add some noise anyway.Shug wrote:I suggest that a foam filter on a Yota will do just fine if the installer remembers to oil it... Agree with comments above - for track use Exige suspension and 48s will transform the car. Personally I think induction kits are not really worth it - potential MIL issues, suspect filtration, and if you believe some reports they may even reduce power on the Yota engine. They can also be bloody loud. I remember paxing with Jamie around Croft last year (pre Bemani), and even with a helmet on the Pipercross was just about making my ears bleed
My ECU is currently away to be reflashed by Lotus Sport to lower the cam change over point. Everyone who has had this upgrade seems to rave about it, but I think I am the guinea pig on this one as far as this forum is concerned
. I'll post up some impressions when I get it back in the car.

Thanks for the advice guys. Brakes are first on list I think, they are kind of important
Presume you all use the RS4-2 blue?
Will leave the induction kit alone though. car doesn't lack in throttle response or power. Some of these kits do make a difference. In my car history I mention I had a Escort Mk5 1.8 Ghia S at one point
It had 115bhp but was completely breathless and had no throttle response no matter how many revs you had on. Fitted a K & N 57i kit and it transformed the car.
I'll keep a look out for 48's and wheels on SELOC etc. If anyone comes across any give me a shout. The plan is to use the 48's through the summer and on track days and keep the Advans for the winter.
Exhaust is something for later as well.
It'll be interesting to see how Mark gets on with the ECU. One of the highlights of the yota engine is the grunt it has coming onto the 2nd cam.

True, but one of the lowlights is the second cam rev band being too narrow - especially annoying dropping off the second cam on track just when you don't want it to. Hopefully the reflash should help with that.Clarkie wrote:. One of the highlights of the yota engine is the grunt it has coming onto the 2nd cam.

what he said...shooomer wrote:I wouldn't bother with exhaust or induction. You might save a bit weight with the exhaust but you certainly won't notice any performance gains when driving.
Suspension, tyres and geo along with pads, hoses and fluid and that will be it apart from if you want to fit harnesses.
