How Often Are You Held Up At KH?

Anything goes in here.....

You can tell if you're holding me up, because I will put my arm out the window and start fiddling with the radio ;-)

I often get held up, in the sense that it happens a couple of times most track days. Most people usually let you pass once you've come alongside in the run to Macintyres ;-)

It's all part of the fun, so actually I don't usually remember afterwards ...

Or put another way, I have yet to think that I CBA to do another track day with such-and-such a group or at such-and-such a venue because I'll get held up all the time.

Of course there comes a performance point where the hold ups are an issue - for example a radical or even the quicker sevens probably spend a lot of time being held up if driven at anything like the limit.

Cheers,
Robin

Its a fact of life, and one I don't particularly mind (maybe I just haven't experienced!) for the money I pay. I still view the chance to be out on a track as a privilege rather than a right.

agree with you Greg... i'm hopefully going to pop my track cherry towards the end of next summer - (bloody skint and got loads to do to car and want training first):thumbsup
however when on track, i'll probably be one of the guys holding everyone up on the bendz.
TBH my fears are not with breaking my car, its more with the people that take it far too seriously and ignore that they were once new on the track!

The occasional problem, but not very often. There are plenty of cars/drivers out there with similar performance/ability, and if not I may have the advantage that my car is easily recognised in the mirror.

I am also happy now to back off if there is a problem, slow down, and wait for some more cars to catch up that I can play with.

I'm just joshing - after all it's not me who's been imortalised in film say "I'm gonna be all over you" and then spin at the next corner

If someone is really holding me up I normall take a different line through clarkes which give me a better exit and on the right side of the track for "legal" passing - I normally just stick the nose up the inside before backing out but it tends to let the flag marshal know my intentions and the next lap there's normally a blue flag waiting for the driver in front.

I'd much rather be held up than have a slower driver panic infront and do something rash resulting in damage to one or both cars though. It's not a race. And now I come to think of it - I'm quite often done a "drive through" to put me on a different part of the track, but only when I'm about to see the red mist.

Depends on the weather 8)

Also depends on your definition of being held up. Some folk may move over after a wee while whereas others are stubborn as a mule.

I reckon I pass about 50% of Loti on track days - mostly good ettiquette. If it's wet you can put that up to 95%.

As for last weekend I was held up bigtime

Perceptions come into it too. The CTR is perceived as being slow round KH in my opinion. If well driven it will keep up with an Elise that's being driven averagely with ease

No willing waving - just the way i see it

What about one that has to dive past on the brakes - because he's been at half throttle along the back straight :D

FFS all I wanted was to get an idea of whether by moving to a Loti or VX, I'd end up getting pi$$ed off being held up the whole time....I didn't want to start arguments within the small SIDC/HM trackday community :?

Basically I don't want to jump out of the frying pan (having to move over 50% of my laps) into the fire (being held up for 50% of my laps).
It wouldn't be worth the £000s required for the change of vehicle.

This is all part of my research into justifying a switch to RWD....or not.

Ah yes you refer to my one and only small spin in 15 track days. At least I uploaded the video and took the piss outta myself......

:D - I've been fishing for ages and this is the first time you've bit :D As I said I'm only joshing - I enjoyed the laps we used to have, gave me an understanding that there are similarly paced cars out there.

It's worth pointing out to Rory that I'm talking about quite a few years ago when driving standards weren't as strictly enforced as they are now - it was allowable to pass on either side and was very much up to the faster car to get past - not the easiest thing to do when cars are similarly matched for pace or in the case of Cal & I one was slightly quicker in the corners and fairly matched in the straights.

I don't think it's a much of an issue these days - the blue flags get waved (occasionally) and you can normally either muscel your way past or hang back to get some space. either way - to answer your question - it's much more fun to be slowed up than sit and watch your mirrors lap after lap.

For anyone who thinks this is willy waving I assure you its merely friendly banter.
A recent trackday 'arguement' between myself and turbo barge owning homosexual Donald contained quite a few pages of discussion on power to weight ratios, suspension, brakes, ghey driver aids.
Actually all we were saying was "see that bit of poo over there? thats you thats is" "yeah well see that old woman smelling of drink and piss, well thats your mum that is" etc etc

Back on topic, switching to a Lotus will probably see you in the middle band of pace on track and probably the most fun band. You shouldn't find yourself held up much, neither should you find yourself moving over much.

280 bhp???

Interesting

Looks like you've gone up in the BHP stakes and I've went down.

Think my wee 140bhp car will get in your road?
