Poll: How do you consume SE?
Re: Poll: How do you consume SE?
I dislike tapatalk, I try it every now and again and every time it just gets removed for various annoying reasons. I manage just fine on the full browser version on my iPhone. I use SELOC in the same way.

I tried tapatalk and just didn't get on with it but maybe didn't give it a chance. I like the mobile version of some other forums (vx220.org) but then people on there don't like the mobile version so don't think you can please everyone.
Lego Elise couldn't afford a real one spec - sold

I dislike tapatalk too. I find the via unread posts button on the normal browser, whether accessed via mobile or laptop is perfectly good

Visually it is always going to be better on a PC/laptop than on a mobile.
My sight is near perfect with reading glasses on, but there is no comparison with reading/posting on a phone compared to a screen, and I have the largest phone display going. However I am on my Macbook 99% of the time, it is different if you are using a mobile for most of the day.

Re: Poll: How do you consume SE?
I usually browse on PC, but since there is little activity, I don't mind using Chrome on android on my (smaller than average) phone screen.
I tried Tapatalk shortly after it was enabled here, but couldn't get on with it. I haven't tried again since, but have no issues with the browser...
I find myself browsing SELOC a lot too now to get my forum fix.
It's a real shame that the movement towards other social media seems to be taking over. Facebook simply doesn't do it for me. Short topics, no depth, post a photo and 'like'
It completely looses the history, the depth of conversation and the search ability that a traditional BB allows.

Re: Poll: How do you consume SE?
Really appreciate your sentiment there Sanjoy. There are quite a few of us on here for whom SE is a fairly big influence on our lives (work/ home / friends etc). I know it has been an influence on my life, and had proven to be a great support network too; how often do we see a post with a very obscure question being answered by well informed individuals?!? Would be a shame to let the community slip away - agree that it needs some gently boosting.Sanjoy wrote:So what do we need to drive some more traffic and interaction chaps and chappesses?
This is a great community just needs some effort now and again.

Totally agree with this sentiment. In the past I have been disappointed that some have felt the need to set up their own wee groups at the cost of traffic / support on SE. However, it is inevitable that social groups will form and split off - it has always happened and always will any any organisation / group / club. People come and people go. It is just natural evolution, as long as there is new members joining.Ferg wrote: You can't blame or expect to control people for having conversations in other mediums. Having isolated discussions won't bring new people in though.
In years gone by I have hosted a few spanners and sponges sessions, despite not really having the space. Having recently moved house, I now have the space, and fully intend to run a few more spanners, sponges and BBQs next year. They were always good to get peeps along and meeting each other.
I have been guilty in the past few years of organizing road runs privately with a few trusted pals. This was down to driving standards and getting tired of runs being ruined by folk binning it. I think it would be good for the community to start doing runs more publicly (like the Sweeping Up the Leaves run a few weeks ago). Just need to be very clear about driving standards / egos etc. I had become reluctant to be the "organizer" of a run where someone crashes. I guess this is an entirely different discussion - maybe one worth having at some point.
Re: Poll: How do you consume SE?
Similar view from me, Dom, on run coordination (I now distrust the term organiser...implies responsibility or liability!!).
Seen to much nonsense or bad luck. But also just v time poor and likely to remain that way until the kids are teenagers. Back with a flourish around 2020 then, lol...

Nothing particularly functional, Campbell. I just don't like the formatting, fonts, layout etc. Just personal preference really (me being picky)campbell wrote:What's the trouble, Ross? iPhone version runs well for me.

Odd. Fonts v neutral I thought, and the New Posts listing is very like iOS mail.
Anyway no worries, maybe just hoped I could help some folks
Made my use of SE much more likely as am in front of a computer so much less nowadays.
