been 4 times, actually took my missus there for our combined 30th! We turned 40 this year and went to ... Berlin with a group of us who all turned 40. And family Holiday to NYC. So i can cover most of the destinations above for recent advice! I wrote my dissertation on New York and it was wonderful for that and just being there. few places have a real sense of place imho. NYC has it, so does Barca, London and Barca.

Berlin, i am not so sure, was good, I hate visiting places twice, unless its really special. Jewish museum is fantastic. Mitte was a pretty cool part of town loads to see and do there. Check Point charlie itself is cheesy the museum to the side is good. Parks galore, if you like bikes rent a fixie, can blat about quite freely. Taxis were cheap. A real sense of past sins as well. Maybe it was seeing it with a group of 8 that changed what i would have done, not so sure. but it is good but not brilliant. more a poignant type of place, for me at least.

Barca, is just rich in everything i like so i am biased. Also have some standout memories of being there!

Rome, its the one that has evaded me... so far!

Curveball is Ibiza and go to the wrong (right side) of the island. flights used to be buttons and its lovely away from the madding crowds.

However, dont forget Scotland, some nice we hiddie holes for a weekend away, although that can also guzzle money! Three chimneys also on the list, but i wouldn't stay there, way too dear imho.

We did barca a couple of years ago and I would definitely go back. Really liked all the gaudi stuff and wandering down the ramblas. We did Naples last year and really enjoyed that too with all the Vesuvius history and the underground city too. Took a trip to Rome also on that trip. Great to see all the Roman architecture in real life. Amazing stuff in detail and scale. Both really good though.

Currently trying to go back in history so this year we're visiting Athens. Next year Cairo?!

All of these places would be great for a joint visit to celebrate a special occasion even if you have been before. And all in close low cost flight proximity. :)
