Fine, I'll stop. I have to go do my morning practice of pull-push steering with a dinner plate...

Re: 139mph in a 60
Motorcyclists are bad drivers? Ha, you should try it from our side.
I almost got taken out twice by the same numbnut in a car on Friday afternoon, he didn't look in his mirror when changing lanes so I had to take avoiding action. He did apologise to me when he realised what he'd done, then did it again as I tried to pass him a couple of miles later.
There's piss poor drivers in all modes of transport, more in cars than on bikes that's for sure.

Yeah tried it from your side for a while but too dangerous for me at the moment. I think I just expect more from bikers TBH.flyingscot68 wrote:Motorcyclists are bad drivers? Ha, you should try it from our side.

I will refrain from a full blown rant of a comment here, pete wrote:Yeah tried it from your side for a while but too dangerous for me at the moment. I think I just expect more from bikers TBH.flyingscot68 wrote:Motorcyclists are bad drivers? Ha, you should try it from our side.

But i will make some comments, I am still in recovery from an accident that saw me with a dislocated shoulder, multiple breaks in both legs, life changing injuries and 18 more pins and 2 more metal plates in my body than was ever intended. Not to mention that i am not able to actually walk yet without two crutches, and the best that i can hope for is that i will be walkign with a stick within the month and likely until the end of the year. However, I am truly grateful to still be alive to type this - the outcomne, had i not jumped off the bike would have been very very different.
All of which could have been avoided if the blind, useless CNUT that hit me head on, had lifted his eyes from the road infront of him to the road ahead he would have seen that he was infact approaching a corner on the wrong side of the road and made correction to his road position. Something that is taught as part of the AIM.
Avoiding imcompetent drivers is a daily part of riding a motorbike, unfortunalty you have to think for yourself and everyone else. So in short, spare a thought for each biker that has to avoind a car driver every single f#cking day they get on the bike before slating the 1 in god knows how many that are not always in the right, becuase i can tell you from my experience of both riding and driving that bad bikers are a very small minority vs utterly shocking car drivers.

( I am not as broken as you -but still long term broken, from an accident caused by someone else's lack of attention)

Clarkie to be fair, you have had 3 big accidents in the last couple of years, all other people fault you just happened to be in a car for the other 2 so you could walk away.

Re: 139mph in a 60
It would be interesting to see an FOI re the number of accidents that have occurred at these locations v the number of tickets issued. If there are a high number of tickets with no accidents it would suggest that the limit may be too low.
If you're not living on the edge you're wasting too much space!
Re: 139mph in a 60
Look i wasn't slagging you off! (I even pulled a previous anti-motorcyclist post 'cos I was told you'd just had an accident and then i forgot).ClarkyBoy wrote:I will refrain from a full blown rant of a comment here, pete wrote:

I was just observing that this year I have seen a surprisgingly large number of motorcycylists driving badly. But that doesn't mean you are a bad rider! I'm sure you are ace.
And I was only baiting the IAM members because their leader had condemned speeders. And I once tried to follow Graeme, who i knew was IAM, in a motor car. I mean he wasn't speeding (obviously - he wouldn't) but I can understand how, to the outside observer, it might have looked like he was.

Re: 139mph in a 60
Just because there wasn't an accident in these cases does not mean they are not safety issues. Anybody with a degree of nounce would equate driving (or riding) at 139mph in a 60 zone on a country A road as a safety issue, both to himself and every other road user unfortunate enough to be there at the time. The reaction time and stopping distance at those speeds alone warrants a safety issue.pete wrote:Sorry, I know there are loads of IAM folk on here but that just comes across as sanctimonious wank.
"These speeds show there are still drivers out there displaying a contempt for the law and for the safety of their fellow road users."
But these aren't safety issues. There weren't crashes. I don't condone speeding but I do know that if (which I wouldn't) I drove at 135 in my shiny Golf down the A74(M) at, say, 2100 on a Saturday evening then it is not a safety event. (Too strong?)

Having been both I'm not so sure. It may appear that way simply because there are far fewer motorbikes on the road compared to cars and invariably a high % of bikes owners only go out at the weekend for a blast so not involved in the rush hour challenge. I'd also be confident in saying that every time a biker goes out he will break the law at some point on his journey, primarily speeding, undertaking etc. The amount of bikers that pass up the middle of the 2 lanes of the A8 Glasgow at more than 60mph when traffic is crawling is un-believable.flyingscot68 wrote:Motorcyclists are bad drivers? Re: 139mph in a 60
Yes there's plenty of dodgy bikers out there but you'll never find them on the phone, texting, doing their make up, shaving, eating cornflakes etc etc.
I see plenty of this from car drivers, every time I go out. It's all illegal and all dangerous.
Speeding on the other hand is not necessarily dangerous, filtering can be if you go too fast but it's really only yourself you're putting at risk.
I think your statement that every biker breaks the law is a bit strong, I know plenty that never speed, never filter and one of them got a broken pelvis and lost a bollock last year for his trouble - car driver on her phone pulled across his path in a 30 limit.

What a shock that bikers don't eat cornflakes when riding
To me, I am sure I would love it, but I am not willing to take the risk of other drivers/injury

Re: 139mph in a 60
I didn't think filtering is illegal (in stationary traffic?)
Anyway, you should all think yourselves lucky. In Switzerland they have pretty much zero tolerance despite being spoiled with some of the best roads in europe..Why, just the other day I was minding my own business and got pulled over by a policeman in the middle of nowhere and fined £400 for doing 110 in an 80 (open main road which I thought the limit was 100). If it wasn't for their generous 4km/h tolerance I would have had my bike taken off me and potentially told to leave the country..
Not sure when the two camera flashes will catch up with me, and how long I can keep up the pretence of being a confused tourist...
And over here I have learned not to eat cornflakes but a lively mix of holy cheese and cured meats with chocolate flavoured UHT milk. Quite a challenge with a full faced helmet..
