I recall in the seventies when a similar report started scare stories like this. In sort, the basis of the research was a collation of company accounts. Depending on the country and and accountancy practices, the 'known' reserves where quoted within normal accountancy time scales and were no reflection of the physical reserves at all.

Not really - of the guys i know who work in the oil industry i doubt 20% actually work offshore in the North Sea.

Most of them work all over the world (Including Russia/China/Brazil and Australia), or on shore based operations.

Our biggest concern is production costs. One major player in the North sea and middle east has just published these figures and explains why they have cancelled 11 of 12 well for next year. Basically one barrel in the North sea costs $45 dollar s to produce as opposed to $7 in the middle east.

Their oil can t last forever so just means ours will be left for a while.

$35 today.

Oil price low, U.K. Production costs are high, importing is cheaper. Extrapolate that decline in local production to zero and I can see why some sh*t lying journalist can create a ludicrous headline.

This guy said we've got nothing to worry about. Personally I'm worried about him being an Aberdeenshire MSP if he that far out out touch with reality.

Utter BS. I've been out of work 6 months now and no sign of getting back to what I've done for the past 26 years so perhaps it's time to get out of Aberdeen and start anew. Can't even get a "fill in" job as I'm either too highly qualified or its too obvious I don't really want a career delivering groceries so don't even get a look in. Had to laugh, when I was laid off as part of the cost cutting exercise they were spending money having Lego models of our subsea trees made and having engineers build them !!. Muppets the lot of them.

Funny thing... SNP seem to have gone quiet with all their "we are rich with oil money " chat.

Mike gave me an interesting chat reference lack of exploration the other day. Cant remember the actual figures but something like currently we have a 35 million dollar shortfall daily which if continued means reserves or rather known reserves are depleted in only 2 years.
Hopefully he or someone in the know will be along shortly to explain better, seemed really interesting and concerning.
Hairdresser at heart.
