That was to do with the main tank fuel level sender and water contamination screwing the readings..

That said even with that problem (and it was not universal) the low fuel warnings still work as they are all independent sensors.

That was my point Simon, he had multiple visual and audio warnings and it looks as if he ignored them.

I have seen it happen before, again for the same reason, the pilot did not want to be caught out so carried on hoping that he would make it.

Head says something is not right and certainly not adding up on what's being made public. Very sad situation, but has the pilot simply given up on life? I hope not... Tut I listen to your points with great interest having spent many a night talking to my father in law who was (past tense and retired) also a helicopter pilot for both Bristows and the Navy (sadly passed away just before Xmas). Despite no medical condition, I find myself wondering if?

Yup, Peter certainly did not want to retire but age caught up on him. He spent the remaining time flying over in Shenzen, China from 2006 onwards. Went to the limit of what they allowed him to do and then did simulator training. He came back 2yrs ago to Auchnagatt, got fed up and also needed a triple heart bypass badly (he should have had it done 5yrs ago). Went in for his operation last November and never came home... Very sad.

We were always discussing the North Sea incidents and I found it fascinating to hear reality rather than the media swoop which would take place.
