Do Muslims have to learn English to live in the UK? I don't think so.......

I believe anyone who settles in this country from abroad should learn to speak the language to a basic level . The classes could also be open to some of the inbred British citizens who struggle .When ever I have gone on holiday I at least try to have a stab at the language and thats just for two weeks.

The media as a whole is responsible for creating hysteria around the word Muslim . In fact media manipulation is responsible for many of the issues in this country . Look at the Bird Flu story , a year ago we were all going to be wiped out and you could get anti viral drugs on Ebay . I have not heard any mention of it for months .

In this story looks like the guy made the mistake of swearing at a cop whilst being a generally law abiding citizen . Now if he was wearing a shell suit , spat at a member of the public whilst smoking a joint he would have been OK as its expected and not worth the hassle .

Rant ends
While I usually get hot flushes when somebody starts talking 'Daily Mail', I really do agree with the above. If I were to live in foreign lands, you can bet your arse the first thing I would do is learn about local customs & languages.

There are whole communities (usually older generations, admittedly) where it's uncommon to speak English in an English speaking country. May not be PC, but I think it's a horrendous way to behave in a country you'd want to call home.

And, to add balance to what I've posted above - I've actually recently met two families of first generation immigrants through work (Chinese and Indian) who were extremely serious about learning the British customs and language when they arrived (in the '50s)

Both have children who are model citizens (one a doctor, one a pretty high powered Ad Exec.) and really add to Britain and our culture & economy.

Two sides to every coin.

May i be controversial here and point out the 'racist' charge was dropped, and he was convicted of Breach of the Peace. I'd hazard the £150 was due to telling an off duty polisman to fcuk off!

Anyway, debates such as those above should be confined to the pub, and after no fewer than 8 beers like any other football/religion etc chat.

:D

EDIT: can't spell :?
