George, I've been going through the same dilemma here i.e. do I need a third car which doesn't get much use. In my case it's the Boxster Spyder! I've only done about 800 miles in mine since I got it in January. My man maths logic is telling me the Spyder isn't dropping in money and not costing much to have sitting there so there is no desperate rush to sell. However if someone was to offer to buy it at the right price, I'd be tempted.

Close to your situation? Might be worth firing an ad on Pistonheads to see what happens?

Chris,

Considering the price that Spyder's are going for in this weather (£38k+) then the price is definitely going in the right direction and we both bought at a good time :) Your car is an absolute peach and would easily sell in double quick time if it was put up for sale. If I had the cash in the bank I would have bought yours and kept one as a little retirement nest egg (as they will be worth a lot more in the future years and suspect it will be covetted as a modern 964 RS).

Probably won't bother about a speculative Pistonhead's ad for the 911, as could not be bothered with some of the spam that you sometimes get or silly offers.

Thanks

I know they have a big fan base but I'm never sure about the longer term view on them. I take it you're in to yours for the long term?

Just sold my X5 via Pistonheads within a week, no issues with spam or the likes and only a couple of silly trade offers.

Chris,

Yep I think so as the Spyder ticks so many boxes for both of us.

With the limited numbers (230 total in the UK and 110 manuals)and slightly different design to the standard boxster they definitely have future classic written all over them (all the magazines are saying the same thing). The only way I can see that being quoshed is if Porsche brought out another version of the Spyder as part of the 981 run.

I also found out that the Spyder I bought was the very 1st customer car on the road (interesting fact but does not add anything to the value).

Well we have decided to put the 911 up for sale shortly as the market is just going one way at the moment with 964's.

Although we could probably get another Summer out of the car it would be useful to have the money in the bank to put down on a sensible car when the Clio goes in September.

So if anyone in Scottish Elise's is looking for a 911 then let me know (adverts will go up soon but may not have a price yet as the market is very wide).

Did a speculative "what its worth" on 911UK and already someone has contacted me with some interest but he needs to sell his C2 first.

Cheers
George

Ps Just need to decide what "our sensible car is" once its sold. New Alpina D3 Touring is tempting but maybe too much money for a sensible car. Also wondering whether Sandra will go for "run around" with another silly car in the garage??

A used 335d Touring would provide a similar experience to the new D3 and you'd have £20k change leftover. £50k is way too much for a 3 series BMW.

Yep, I was thinking the same way that the 335d will get you nearly there for a lot less outlay. However the AutoCar report which compared it with the Merc C63 (507bhp version) is pretty impressive.

Don't know what we are doing yet as the 135i is also in the running, only issue is space. The dog is not big but thinking we will need a bigger car for longer runs as its like packing for a small child at the moment!!!

However its the usual man/car issues as look sensible then go left field (http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C452465 with another weekender car in the garage)

Yep the Targa is a 2+2, although I would not like to spend a long time in the back of the 964 as its the usual "occasional" seating.

If I had seen that B10 before I bought the Honda CRV then I would have considered it.

Not sure about changing leather for cloth though.

Tut in "I prefer wipe clean shock"

Good thing with cloth is that they will stop you sliding around with spirited driving :thumbsup

That B10 is very very nice - E39 was a cracking car, regardless of model, my brother had a 530d MSport Touring from new, great thing to drive :thumbsup
