35mph in a 60
Re: 35mph in a 60
I find it very frustrating as well.
Flip side is I'm occasionally in a car with hand controls driven by a wheel chair bound person from their chair. It's not the easiest thing in the world to pilot and when I've been at the controls, even I've had frustrated drivers behind me. Said person is not pensionable, but has had several driving assesments to check they are capable. All passed well, but they do get along at a lesser pace.

I can recall being a passenger with my Grandad and being annoyed at aggressive drivers tail-gating him. He was an IAM member and religiously re-set the test every three years until he stopped diving in his late eighties. He was not slow, part of the IAM standard is to make progress where safe. If I find frustration creeping into my mindset when driving, I remind myself that the slow guy holding me up, might very well be someone else's Grandad. Works for me in diffusing the situation.

Pretty sure aggressive tail-gaiting annoys everyone, with me it's in built up areas and on the motorway. In practice it has the opposite effect and unlikely to make the driver in front speed up and more liable to slow a little.Dominic wrote:I can recall being a passenger with my Grandad and being annoyed at aggressive drivers tail-gating him.

Re: 35mph in a 60
I admit (because admission in the first step to recovery) that I am becoming a cantankerous ar$ehole when people get in my way. On my way to work or on the way home getting stuck behind buses who are lucky if they can muster 30mph on the Stewarton road or the old farmers who potter along at 20mph and slow down for tiny bends in the road.
It's not that I drive fast to work I have a very pregnant Ann sitting beside me.

You can get charged for doing 30mph on a motorway, as other drivers approaching aren't expecting such a speed differential.
However, motorways are 70, and mainly big long straight(ish) roads. However, doing 20mph around a sweeping bend, in a 60mph is quite dangerous, as approaching cars may not even see you before 'arriving'.
Yes I know if you are going around a bend you can't see, you should drive to the visible distance, however if you did that, no one would ever drive over 20mph, ever.
Also you have to be prepared for horses, cyclist etc..
I always try to hold back and overtake when it's safe. But once you are in the middle of a long queue, people at the back start getting frustrated, and most drivers these days don't seem to understand the concept of waiting until until they can see around a bend before overtaking, endangering everyone in the queue.
Old slow drivers aren't my biggest bugbear, it's sort of slow drivers that think they are faster than they are, and cut corners stopping you from passing
