Mrs Donkey got a ticket for failing to display when the tax had been up-to-date and paid.......but the disc had never arrived in the post. We successfully got it overturned but it is technically still an offence and we count ourselves very lucky.
Focus ST estate, i3s and more pushbikes than strictly necessary.

Frankly I can’t understand why they still issue tax disks. The police monitor it via a database which flags up unpaid tax and if they do have people out checking them manually then they are wasting tax payers money doing so. There must also be quite a bit of cost in sending out tax disks.

I'm sure I read somewhere recently that they are going to abolish the tax disc for those very reasons.

Only issue is what do you hold in the traffic officer's face when their system (and it will) f*cks up at some stage? Having legal proof on you is quite a comforting feature of the current setup.

Agreed Shug but a printed receipt with a computerised watermark kept in the car would cover that.

I would like top think that the £5 they will save in admin, postage etc would be passed back to the motorist via a price reduction but know that it won’t be.

There is probably a tasty profit for the Government after costs of administering the scheme likewise with driving licence/passport renewal, cherished number plate retention etc etc

Just went to renew the tax on N3 with a special form as I do not have to pay for it, only to be told that as I have a Motability car which is tax free, I am not entitled to one for a private car.

I asked them what had happened in the ten previous years, and was told that the computer must have missed it. They very kindly informed me that they would not be pursuing the back charges, but had a good run so no complaints.

Mate, you really need to read threads properly before getting defensive...

Didn't see any snyde comments and certainly no "police bashing" bandwagons going on here...

It seems that they do not even bother calling around after a break in and burglary nowadays, or is that just in Aberdeen?

Fair play - but two comments out of 29 posts.

Not "chinning" anyone. Just questioning the puffed out chest when the thread in general certainly has not gone the direction of "police state nazi" guff that some forums might throw up. Seemed pretty balanced to me?

Still, our opinions appear to differ once more ;)
