Never seem to have time to read books nowadays since the Internet was invented, but Christopher Brookmyre is also a favourite of Verian's, and she gets through loads on her Kindle as she has his whole collection.

Well worth buying one Scotty if you want to read on the beach or by the pool, and I have hundreds of titles that you could download to it. Clare also has one that you could borrow with all the e-books on.

Read all of Banks stuff, it's awesome. Now enjoying his sci-fi books more than the other ones. The Culture series is brilliant.

Recently read No Angel: The Secret Life of Bernie Ecclestone, which, if you are into F1, gives fantastic insight into the inside shenanigins.

Currently reading The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, trilogy of five.

For very basic pick up read, Michael Connolly books are good. The Lee Child 'Jack Reacher' books too. Not going to stretch your brain any but you're on holiday! ;-)

I don't do much reading but did buy a kindle a couple of years ago. Ideal for taking on holiday as takes up about the same space as a single paperback but can hold loads of books.

Lee Childs Jack Reacher novels are a very easy and enjoyable holiday read. I haven't read any Chris Brookmyre for a while but really enjoyed them when I did and read about 4 back to back. The first time I had ever seen the word "keich" in print and didn't click what it meant at first. :)

I also read H Kingsley-Long's No Mean City for the first time last year.

Although it's nearly eighty years old it really is a fasinating read. Gives a great insight as to what Glasgow was like back then and why it is the city it is today.

On a snow and ice theme, I have been reading a lot of David Howarth stuff recently. Thoroughly recommended historical non-fiction but as gripping as any novel. And boy did these guys have balls of steel. Suggest:

We Die Alone
Shetland Bus
Sledge Patrol

Blurb for We Die Aone

In March 1943 a team of expatriate Norwegian commandos sailed from the Shetland Islands - the most northerly part of Britain - for Nazi-occupied Norway.Their mission was to organise and support the Norwegian resistance. They were betrayed and only one man survived the ambush by the Nazis. Crippled by frostbite and snow-blind, hunted by the Nazis, Jan Baalstrud managed to find a tiny arctic village. There - delirious, near death - he found villagers willing to risk their own lives to save him. David Howarth narrates his incredible escape in this gripping tale of courage and the resilience of the human spirit.

Sad news. We used to live in NQF, just round the corner from him. Such a quiet unassuming guy who we'd regularly see out walking.
Great petrolhead as well, recall his 340R, Jags and Porkers.
