Laptop time. NLC.
Re: Laptop time. NLC.
You've convinced me Graeme. Do you do tech support for idiots that can't work it??
Re: Laptop time. NLC.
I'm far from expert on the subject, but I have my windows based laptop, the GF has her Mac book air. I really don't like the mac book, just can't get use to all the commands and inputs being that bit different from what I'm use to on my laptop. Maybe I need to use it more, but I have no desire to. Maybe I'm just a grumpy old man / dinosaur when it comes to IT stuff.

Better in the sense that it doesn't have that irritating second button which you never need ... unless you're running Windowsgraeme wrote: not much different to any other Windows Laptop (except with a better trackpad)

Campbell you should clearly get a PC from here:
http://www.morgancomputers.co.uk/
Mostly good stuff from previous generations, all of which was perfectly useful at the time and still is today. Then when you're bored running Windows98 you can upgrade to Linux, get rid of all the graphical nonsense and focus on what's actually useful
Cheers,
Robin

Mac mice and trackpads have had right-click for years!
EDIT: In fact, right click on a Mac is ergonomically far superior to right-click on a PC. The only thing it doesn't work well for is games, where physical mouse buttons and scrollwheels are better. I keep a Bluetooth Logitech mouse on the desk for gaming and just pick that up when playing shooters.

Arriving broadside, in a cloud of smoke......
Re: Laptop time. NLC.

Robin are you offering training session on vi ?

Re: Laptop time. NLC.
Sure:
b is back word
h is left
j is up
k is down
l is right
w is forward word
i for insert mode (or R for overwrite mode).
esc to return to command mode.
:w to save
:wq to save and exit
Do you need any more than that?
The 820 is no doubt not a brilliant laptop, but fully capable at 150 of your own pounds vs. 200-300 more for something more modern (and generally no more functional). My newest laptop is M4400 core2duo of similar vintage and rockets along. My previous was p4m and was only obsoleted by cat sick, otherwise would still be using it.

Depends on how you learn, if visually, the the graphical stuff is required.

Re: Laptop time. NLC.
BTW, the laptop in the link is a D820 not 620 - not that it is probably any different, but it's horses for courses - £150 is not a lot of money to spend on a nag

Re: Laptop time. NLC.
Just ordered a printer for Ian from Morgans Robin, Canon MG5150 sold without ink cartridges for £20 less than elsewhere.
Canon is a no brainer for me, I am sure that most people do not look at the cost of cartridges particularly compatibles if they are available, when they order the printer. We mow have four Multifunctional's in the family, OEM cartridges are £55 for the five, compatibles from http://www.ink.co.uk are £4.35 for five that are now chipped, and just as good.
