There's just something so much more likeable about Button. My mates girlfriend has a big thing for Hamilton and I just don't get it. He's a good driver, but he doesn't come across well. He might be built to race, but certainly not built to deal with the media - always seems to put his foot in it one way or another. Do these guys not get pulled aside and taught how to deal with the media?

I personally couldn't care less where he goes, so long as he makes as few appearances as possible on the podium, that'll do for me!

I was calling Hamilton everything this past Sunday only to find out from the replay it wasn't actually his fault this time!

Me too. Think Hamilton is an amazing driver but he's about as popular as Plato :D And like Plato gets driven into a lot.
Kimi was always my fave. That he's in a Lotus makes it even better.

I was like a kid when I saw he was in "our" garage at Spa

Hamilton is a jumped up, petulant little sh*t who doesn't have the successes to back up that enormous ego. Yes, he is talented. Extremely so. But so are the other guys in F1. His attitude stinks. As DC said at the end of last season, he needs to "get over himself". Why exactly have people forgotten all the crap that he's come away with? "maybe its cause im black?"

Maybe its cause your a dick

Hamilton move.

He's just young. I used to hate his guts for being a spoiled little git, but he's really matured this year and credit where it's due he's turning into a likeable driver. I hope he and Ross Brawn can do something special, or at least interesting, next year.

I don't like him either. Can't put my finger on why exactly but I think it's the air of entitlement that surrounds him. Like every championship is his from the start and it's everyone's else's fault for getting in his way. In reality he's probably no worse than the rest In that respect but for some reason he winds me up when others don't. Doesn't help he's team mates with jenson so I automatically hope he falls off every race

I see your point but there are younger drivers on the grid that don't have his attitude problem. A certain double world champion being one of them...

I would tend to agree with reference to his "air of entitlement". However, as a racing driver, he has to believe that he is there to win, and have a certain arrogance and assertiveness over the other drivers, to let them know he's not to be walked over. There is a little bit of a Senna type approach - other drivers knew not to get in his way. It's maybe another element of the sport, one to be mastered on the way to becoming champion, with little regard as to what people think of him.

On the other hand, Button became champion (maybe through having a big advantage with the car),.. and remains likable.

I still think the drivers currently in F1 with the most raw talent are Hamilton and Alonso, both are capable of driving a car way beyond its natural limit and ability and getting results.
Not that I am saying all the others arent (extremely) good - but they need the right machinery to get results consistently.

(And of course they all need a degree of luck and reliability )

I'm not a huge fan for a few reasons, but that's all been well covered above.

I hope he does move to Mercedes as it'll either mature him lots as he ends up in a team that probably aren't as quick and has to deal with it, or he realises what he had at McLaren, and becomes more of a frustrating moan, and gets dropped..
Also, if he can take a different team to a championship win, it shows he actually does have the skill, and can adapt.

Can't say I have seen Hamilton doing anything particularly amazing, Alonso, Shumi & Senna for modern(ish) drivers that have shown some amazing driving in conditions where other fail. Rain tends to remove the car advantage and show the raw talent. Button has shown he is a Prost type driver where he sees the big picture, with that in mind he should win a few more championships.

I would love to see Kobayashi in a better car though :D

It's just a case of the usual british media. We build someone up to uber-god status and focus on their every move constantly. as soon as we find out he's just a normal guy and makes mistakes we cut him down and slate him for it.

We look at him and think. "He's not that special, why should he get all the opportunities". The fact is he's just a normal bloke and when the opportunity came along to make some money and get in a good team, he took it.
