I was let off with a warning last Thursday for doing 31 in a 20 zone going through the village of Burrelton on the way to Perth Airfield. Was a really nice chat, no good cop / bad cop thing, just a reminder that the village was a 20 zone at all times and to pay more attention. Got the full breathalyser test and and vehicle check then waved on. Lucky boy

No, Wendy's Suzuki Vitara.

(only pseudo comical moment was after I was waved to pull over I put the windscreen wipers on instead of the indicators and probably looked flustered. The policeman asked, "is this your own car, Sir?" and I replied, "Err, No, it is my wife's I think. Actually, no, sorry it is registered in my name. (pause).. infact it isn't registered to me, it is in her name." He smiled.. "Are you sure?" .. I laughed back, "Err, No, not really"

Perhaps that was the bit of initial banter that passed the attitude test since it was at that point he showed me the radar gun display and said he would only be issuing a warning and advice, but it could easily have been 3 points and a fine, before saying they needed to do a breath test and vehicle check.

But as you say, no mention of fine, points etc. Filled up her name and sent it off yesterday.
Ours came last week. Same fine/points. Thing is we go on hols soon and worked out 28 days from letter date is day we return which is latest they say we can submit licence. Need to take wife's licence with us so she can be put on rental car and don't want to send in just now in case not back in time before hols departure. Going to take chance and mail when back from hols so they will get it day 30 or so after charge. Worth phoning them to say this or pointless as will just be in a big generic process?
Do any of our resident coppers think a couple of days late wil make a difference ?

 On the way home from knock hill yesterday. I gave Lindsay a bit of a fly by after slowing down for the speed camera just north of Forfar. Just as I was passing he I noticed a camera van parked 50 meters off the road with pointing in our direction
I slammed on my brakes. Can you still get done if there are 2 cars on the same bit of road side by side?

21 days and waiting. Just hope we both don't get points and Lindsay might have been borderline as well.

I would phone and state your case - better than having to go to court later because you missed the cut off :?

Saw this one too, as we left a bit later than you but I think we will be ok, think we were doing 80 on the speedo, so probs about 75.

I think Alan got caught last sat on the same bit as he did last time, while trying to find out what was wrong with my mini. However, there were a few lorries blocking their view so we might be ok...... (knowing our luck there will be a letter sitting under the letterbox for us right now! )

Yes, definitely give them a call. I was one day late paying mine and had everything sent back to me!! Had to go to court and ended up paying £90. Would have been more if I'd not shown up personally in court.

Can you not just go into the courthouse and pay the fine and they will write it on so you don't have to send it away? We did this once with Alan's.

Scotty, scam vans are completely automatic, so if you get a NIP it will usually be within four days.

Unfortunately they can get a line of cars individually if they are speeding, and are nearly always placed to point at the corner, so as soon as your nose comes around they clock the speed.

Thanks for suggestion. Wife did just that today. Tells you to mail it but she went to Haddington court today and all done there on the spot.

IIRC scam vans use laser devices with a cross hair so the operator knows exactly who he's pointing at, if the speed is over the preset (usually 10%+2) then an asterix appears on his screen indicating that the target vehicle is over speed. There's no discretion either (the preset 10%+2 is the discretion) and once he's pinged your car, he could easily haved moved over and pinged Lindsay's aswell.

21 days? 14 days max for a NIP.
