Maybe we should start next year with a few events in the callendar?
The ones I've done this year, have mainly been last minute as i have been able to attend the others, but surely the best way forward is to get some dates in the diary??
Should we start a thread with possible suggestions?
I know a Le Mans trip was mentioned a while back.
The hillclimbs, sprints and trackday callendars could be added also?
What else would people like to do?
I think both forums have their pro's and cons, but if SE2 is the way forward, it would be great to try and ensure we lose no-one from SE1.
Just my 2p, but there is so much enthuasiasm in this group and so many great people, it would be a shame not to make the most of it.

I still recieve all the SE1 mail and even when I didnt have my S1 anymore I still kept an eye on things as the community spirit was always a laugh and worth a read. But sadly it all seems to have dried up.
As with most things in life what goes around comes around and Im sure that the organised runs of yester year will no doubt return.
I enjoyed organising the runs and clothing and stickers etc. etc. but as with many folk, work and family commitments tend to get in the way alot more than they used to
, and building up brownie points to get away for the odd day here and there seems to take a lot longer than it used to aswell!
If you want to take a trip down memory lane have a read through the Tut Towers stuff on Dels's site http://www.delands.force9.co.uk/
Awesome stuff and really catches the spirit of the events and what owning a fantastic car like the Elise is all about.
The first SE'er I met was Fat Bob Fisics who I just happend to bump into at Crail and pointed me in the direction of the group...christ, I didnt even have an email address back then!!!
The camaraderie and banter is still there as I found on the last SIDC day and the recent trip to Alford. Peeps just need to stop gassing, start organising and get out and start driving
(says Scott getting back to work and family commitments
)

[quote="timmsky"]As one of the northern contingent, I feel the impact of SE2 more than most and this is simply down to the fact that the runs seem to take place ad-hoc “I’ve got a free night tomorrow, anyone up for a run in the borders?....â€

Valid points Mac, and taken in the spirit they were offered
Being a participant in all the Tut Towers runs from their inception and assisting where I can with routes planned in this area, I was absolutely gutted when Mexi Towers was to be held on my wedding anniversary. With 2 small children paddling about, there was no way either I or my wife and I could get away for a run or an overnight. It was a tough choice, but I have to live with my wife.......
I am 20 minutes north of Inverness, so my best chance of joining a run would be a West Coast Highland trip, ala the Campaganza last week.
Again, I was mortified to have missed that run too, having planned to use it as a shakedown of the new steed, however the previous week I had been in the US for 10 days and missed 2 weekends at home with the kids. They would have forgotten what I looked like had I been away a 3rd weekend in a row
There are always mitigating circumstances for anyone and as many excuses as a race driver for not going on runs etc, but my point was that the country-wide spirit has gone, and it's now very much "the southern contingent", the "west coasters" and "the aberdeen mob". Occasionally we meet up at KH but there just isn't enough of the weekend run culture remaining...
I guess most folk are able to satisfy themselves with the local runs, and that's just fine
Maybe you're right, I should organise a run in this neck of the woods, and let's see how that goes

Unfortunately I was without my car for two months of the summer or I would have been pushing for some more weekend events. Didnt want to go ahead with organising anything myself as I didnt want to step on anyones toes, me being a relative newbie to SE.
It was me who arranged the TRS run that a few SE members gatecrashed and I have arranged dozens of events from one to several days all over Scotland so I would be perfectly happy to travel up north to some SE runs.
Time might be running out weather and daylightwise for any weekend events this year, but I'll happily lend a hand to any run organisation if asked in order to make future events happen.

I know your experience is quite a unique one, as you are kind of out on a limb - even I now (once quite lonely here on the West coast) have quite a lot of owners within 10 minutes drive.
When you think back, the big SE trips were pretty much organised by Campbell - obviously his life has changed (being blessed with the wee one) and I think those would have stopped happening anyway. Not to say that it may be good for somebody else to take up the torch of Routemeister...

Yep, Eilidh has been essentially the entire reason that my SE activity has dropped off since about spring 2005. But I do feel I am gradually getting back into it again, though it will never reach the fever pitch it used to. I am grateful to Lisa for her support in enabling us to keep the Elise when so many other families have to sacrifice the "fun car" when their offspring arrive. We even have a Porsche-sourced car seat for Eilidh to use in the Elise, and she LOVES it!
Lisa has also confirmed she's keen to join the Campaganza experience next season, in the same way that Stu's clan do, by coming along in a "support vehicle"...so watch out, sprogs about!
As the demographic of our group changes, with more children arriving by the day (!), you may see it become more family-oriented in some ways...and more petrolhead-oriented in others (with newbie members as anxious to get their fix as we once used to). This means (for me at least) less trackday action, and more "day out" action instead, where the family can get involved. In fact I can see it now - "SE Families On Tour at The Nurburgring"

Important point - I would be more than happy to plan runs/routes even if I don't attend. I love poring over maps and thinking back to fave roads, or identifying new ones to try out. Naturally it's nice to get along to a day you've organised, but this would not be the first time I've set things up then not been able to go along...but for the benefit of the group, they still happen and everyone generally has a great time. In fact, that's about the only thing I could contribute as per the "What can SE do for you" thread that started recently!!!
SOOOO...if anyone ever has an idea for a daytrip or Campaganza but they'd like some Routemeister input, support or general guidance, please do get in touch. But remember, the nature of the BBS is you can't attract someone's attention like you can if they are on a mailing list, so always be sure to email me in the traditional way. You'll then get a form to fill out and that sends them an email to their registered address. The return address for that message is set to your registered email address.
Also, you should have an option in your Profile settings under the heading "Notify on new Private Message". This will cause an email to be sent to you whenever you receive a PM through the forum. You'll still have to log on here to read the PM but at least you'll know you've got one.
