The friends it has introduced me to on here
The fact that no matter what is going on in life, a drive in the Elise makes all feel good with the world again.
Finally, the steering, the handling, the acceleration, the fun!

After everything I've went through in the last year loosing my licance driving a Lotus, some would have turned their back on it and put it behind them. I picked Mags car up today and it was just like turning back the clock.
After 14 months of none involvment of driving the 160 we still love the old thing
, the driving feedback is instint and gives pure driving joy

Re: What do you love most about your Lotus?
After having had a 118hp S1 11yrs ago through to a k-series in various states of tune to a Honda s1, exige s, and since 1.5 yrs ago back to an Elise s2.5 1.6.. One lesson I've learnt is that power isn't everything.. which is what lotus is all about after all is said and done.. Nothing feels quite so special and so complete. It's enjoyable no matter what speed you're doing, even if you don't get to track it often.. or even at all for that matter..
I still look for an excuse to open up my warehouse just to catch a glimps of the Elise.
It's a car that's far more than just the sum of its parts..

P.s. That's enough wine for me tonight I think.. At the risk of getting too 'gushy' on the subject

The endless problems, and lack of access whereby a simple job that should take 5 minutes actually takes 4 hours due to space constraints, oh the fact it still ain't fcucking working

The fact that it now feels like a favourite pair of shoes. I know exactly what it'll do and when, it fits me perfectly and when you get one of those rare days when all the dominoes line up, the experience of threading a well-known, good road together at pace is akin to telepathy. Sure, there are faster and more reliable, but nothing is quite as hardwired into my brain like my S1.

Re: What do you love most about your Lotus?
I very much liked my S1 for the pureness. I had a go kart when I was younger and always dreamed of being able to drive it on the road (legally), the Elise was the realisation of that. 118hp was a bit too restrained, I rebuilt mine to 180ish which was better and a fun project in it's own right.
Meeting the original SE1 guys back in 2000/2001 led to some great adventures and meeting some good friends. I have some fond memories of travelling to and from the Nurburgring on the Geordie/Hull express a few times as well as general meets, road runs and track days.
I loved my S2 SC, although that bit heavier, I felt it was a perfect combination with the extra power and better build quality. I'd be very surprised if I did not come back to Lotus again in the next few years, I love the product and there is an element of loyalty that's probably more down to this forum than Lotus itself... strangely...
I've had lots of cars in my time and the only new purchases that got me excited were the two Elises, they always felt special when driven too.
It's great that even with the greater number of owners and members involved in SE2, the original spirit of the community is very much still there. I don't know of any other forum like it.
Foz, I live closer and will give you £37.50 (if you deliver and leave the tax on it)

The handling and the fact that you know every petrol head you pass would love to be in the driver seat instead of you.
Can always remember year ago (when I had my S1 111S), out xmas shopping and a Lamborghini Diablo pulls up next to me in George St. The guy then gave me the thumbs up. It goes to show that even drivers of supercar exotica appreciate the driving finesse of the Lotus.

I've had the thumbs up / wave from owners of proper exotica too actually, always makes me smile as I get into my mondeo money plastic frog

As for mine, everyone has covered most of my main likes, sublime handling, 'come back for some more fun' etc, I also like:
The looks, since I first saw pics in 96.
The fact it's nearly exactly the way I want it, nice and green

It feels part of the family - that could be because i've touched / fixed / removed / replaced most parts of it of course...
The huge grin it puts on my face
