Congratulations on the purchase. Best of luck with the refurbishment.

Im pants at DIY but can carry stuff for beer if you are having any work parties.

Also, give me a shout if you fancy a pool table or a fruit machine for your man cave.

Congrats! Sounds like you have a lot of work cut out for you both, but it'll be great to put your own stamp on the place :)

Erica and I are working on a similar sort of idea when funds become available.
We have a hobby room, which has guitars, keyboard, retro gaming (I specifically went on the look out for a 4:3 CRT TV!) and a single bed for a guest if required.
The plan is to have a games/entertainment room also, with a big TV, and xbox / ps3 set up, with surround sound and some place I can keep silly large things like rock band instruments and xbox steering wheels!

We moved into a place needing a lot less work done though so not anything like the same scale of project!

Interesting... do you have a contact for old arcade video games machines per chance?

Will send you a pm with ballpark.

I can do you a good deal on a full rewire , the cost does go up slightly once we add additional things like Cat5s , Hdmi , downlighters, external lighting etc etc but we can have a chat about what you need . If budget is tight the main thing is getting the cables in place before plastering as you mentioned , you can fit stuff later.

Have a look through my avforum refurb , although alot has changed since ,it will give you some ideas for lighting and AV ideas . I'll send link through PM.

So for a little update, progress has been slow with the house so far, just mainly stripping it out. We have a few photos gathering up so what I thought I would do is use this post as a little project progress tracker so I can keep updated with the progress, hopefully get some advice going through the progress and also be good for looking back and seeing how the thing came along.

First the pics of the house as it was bought:

That looks like a cracking house mate :thumbsup It does need a bit of work, but nice to see some lovely original features - although a lot of the stuff looks quite '80's repro. Look forward to seeing the work in progress - you have my number if you want a cheap labourer :thumbsup

Progress so far is mainly stripping back to the bare bones. Main focus before winter was to get the house wind and water tight so on with a new roof for the garage. Next was to clear all the gutters and all the valleys of the dormer windows. This week/next week new velux window is due to be installed and on the hunt for someone to do a bit of rendering to the chimney stack. Items on the agenda for next stage, likely at the begining of next year is the full house is going to be rewired and then the full house re-plastered -all walls and ceilings, with the upstairs ceilings made flat as they are currently artex, and downstairs ceilings repaired. We want to be able to paint the whole house so want nice fresh walls for a good finish. Pics of current state:

You're going to have a cracker of a house there Scott, some great original features and the satisfaction of doing it up yourself :thumbsup

Some of the colours in the first pics are a bit heavy on the eye  - pink skirtings, hope you're keeping them!!

Welcome to Stewarton

It's a rather sunny Stewarton today too I work at the railway station and if you continue 500 yards down the road from your garage shot you will be at ExigeKen's.

If you need a hand with anything give me a shout.

Please do pass on the number of the roofer. I need to get someone in to do some rendering on the chimney. I think I have a guy maybe having a look this week sometime if Holly is free as I am off to Israel on Wednesday and back on Friday. If that fails then I can give this guy a shout. When the house is done need to hold a sponge and spanners session, and make sure the bar is properly stocked! :damnfunny

Cheers:
