Lecht Road Scamera Van
Re: Lecht Road Scamera Van
Brockburn Road (pollock) round the corner from me has rozzers "hiding" at least 3 times a week at the moment with guns.
When I say hiding I mean literally hanging out bushes and bustops with cop cars/hi vis vests etc. out of site .
I got done in the lotus few years back , the cops where standing INSIDE a bus shelter , theres also alot of trees next to shelter , impossible to see them.
They clocked me from 400 yards away doing 42 in a 30.
Last week they stopped my friend , who they clocked from around the same distance , this time they where situated so you could only just see there heads from the other side of a round about .
Its very very sneaky. Are they allowed to do this ?

Re: Lecht Road Scamera Van
They are out on the country roads at the weekend probably trying to catch the bikers, or at least deter them from killing themself. I've seen them quite a few times between Muir of Fowlis and Alford, parked up on a verge after a open bend. They position their warning sign on the inside of the bend which would be far too late for making any adjustments - they know what they are doing! I don't think they are obliged to be fair, but they don't help the case that it's a safety based law when they start putting obstructions in distracting and stupid places. Fortunately I've always been on my push bike, so not much risk other than the screech from drivers in a panic behind.

You could stop and ask them if they are aware that they are breaching the Association of Chief Police Officers guidlines, get there name and number and write a complaint to the Chief constable.Jamie_84 wrote:Its very very sneaky. Are they allowed to do this ?
You will stir up some sh*t and forever have your card marked

Sorry Jamie nobody else has said it but what would your indicated speed have been? You cannot be upset with them stopping people doing 40+ in a 30. I don't know the road so cannot comment on how "fair" it may or may not have been.Jamie_84 wrote:They clocked me from 400 yards away doing 42 in a 30.

NESCAMP are doing a talk for the local IAM tonight in Inverurie. I wont be there but have asked the secretary to raise it as an issue. Perhaps their resources could b oe better used in more populated areas. I have also asked him to question why the NESCAMP van regularly speeds on the A96 and why they think it is acceptable for them to run red lights at the Inveramsey bridge and what message of road safety this conveys to the general public!

I'll say it too - 42 in 30 (so speedo probably said 45) no excuses,no complaints accepted - not on at all.Sanjoy wrote:Sorry Jamie nobody else has said it but what would your indicated speed have been? Although easy to do if you're not paying attention ... and if you're not paying attention you are not going to spot the scamvan or any other hazzard for that matter.
I guess many of us have been there at one time or another

Just very very sneaky how they operate on that stretch of road , frustrating that they are still hiding in bushes and bustops 2/3 years on .

Notes from the Gordon Group IAM meeting.
NESCAMP drivers' standard of driving is assessed prior to active service and
if found lacking they are given local training.
They must adhere to the law; no dispensation. If you believe that one of
their drivers has committed an offence / broken the law; then report the
incident. The vans do have tracking equipment / black box type device fitted
so if furnished with details such as vehicle registration mark, location and
time then the complaint can be investigated.
Applicable speed limits for the vans, if I recall correctly are same as the
one I drive, i.e. built-up areas as per relevant signage; e.g. 15, 20, 30,
40, 50 mph, single carraigeway - 50 mph, dual carraigeway - 60 mph, motorway
- 70 mph.
Locations for cameras both fixed and mobile are chosen by collision and
speed history and use a points system whereby part of the relevant points
allocated relates to differing injuries or death as a result of those
incidents. Any given site must acquire a minimum score in order to be
considered. In addition Exception Sites such as where residents / locals
have complained about driving behaviour can be covered over a limited time
period e.g. 3 months and also Special Events such as football fixtures. In
Grampian a reduction in incidents and thus points is making finding new
sites difficult.
Tactics can vary such as saturation; rather than every 3 / 4 days, not for
two weeks then every day for 5 days.
Other than the speed recording cameras the vans have 3 additional cameras
providing a 360 degree view thus bike front number plates are catered for.
In addition, money from fines doesn't go to Partnership funding; this comes
from a government grant which is set at the start of the year and evaluated
year by year.
As to why up the Lecht or Tomintoul I'm not sure that I picked up on this
but could it be due to limited amount of sites to work around, [see
earlier], or be in response to local concern and a vocal local councillor
[see Exception sites mentioned above].

Bikes do not have front number plates.

Re: Lecht Road Scamera Van
I think what he meant was the 360deg camera would pick up the rear number plate once they had passed, therefore negating the lack of front number plate. Also would be something to bear in mind for those elises whose front plate "fell off"

I know they have them in England, so it looks as if they have now crossed the border.
