For me?

Merc C350 CDi Sport, with some toys - ~£450 pcm contract hire.... (Sub 7 secs to 60mph / 155 mph flat out...Nice in Sport trim)

or

VW Scirocco 2.0 TDi, with some toys - ~£370 pcm contract hire... (Could get the 2.0 TSi for £30 more, with Nav / iPod etc...)

Hmmmm....

It's a personal finance thing I'd be putting it on, rather than a company contract hire/lease.

Scirocco is tempting actually... further research may be required on that one....

Not having another Merc again. Doesn't matter how good or bad their cars may be now or in the future.... their dealers are all a bunch of c*nts (in my experience to date - at several places).

This is much cheapness.... I am sure you could persuade the lease company to alter the annual mileage

Given your fetish with Italian things that break :D

Otherwise with a sensible head on

Passat CC
Skoda Superb
Skoda VRS
Alfa 159 Sportwagen

Have a look at loony Lings Cars website?

:cheers
Whilst I would naturally vote for a Skody VRS, a certain Russell Paterson's Alfa 159 tourer v6 Jtd oil burner looked 8) alongside his Morgan collection last weekend!! Were it not for a still-compromised boot, we might have been off looking to chop the Octavia in for one. Hubba indeed.

Anyway, anyone with £450 a month to spend on a car which only has to return 35mpg is going to have a lorra lorra fun. I best tune out now...! And I see from the bottom of the thread that RossyBoy Daley is on the case already. Likey the Scirocco, actually.

However I think we'd throw our cash at an Alpina D3 touring, given carte blanche.

With fuel heading north of £1.20/l and with all quoted figures being bollox compared to what you'll actually achieve in a 200BHP+ luxo-barge, I would be adjusting my pcm downwards in order to pay for the fuel that 20K miles/year is going to cost you ... but that's just me.

In fact, the 320D is probably the car to keep, use the money to pay off your mortgage (assuming you have one) or to buy a bigger house ... not that you need a bigger house, but then you don't need a new car either ;-)

If you really want a new car that's quicker, pick up a second hand 330D sport instead ... even the old one Katie and I have is pretty rapid (though it doesn't return 35mpg unless you're in cruise on m-way).

Cheers,
Robin

XF good shout; as you say, pity over budget.

3 series BM hard to beat.

1 series coupe looks a bit too 'noddy car' for me. Just my 2p.

I was contemplating an Alfa Brera; Pretteee car, but not a great drive.

'Rocco is a good shout, try a few. The 140BHP may be a nicer drive than the mega turbo laggy 170bhp,... (if they are anything like the dismal golfs). While mentioning golfs, it is the same car as the the 'rocco, with added practicality, but less style.

Dave forget the alfa nice looking car that it is. Had one for 3weeks and the mpg was 24/28 at very best was so shocked!! Plus in the 3 weeks I had it things were begining to break! Shame as it looks lovely.

A mate had a d3 nice car but getting Tyres for it was a big problem because of size sure he waited 5 weeks for one!

New 5 series looks nice. Not sure how much PCM ?

What about a disco? Or the new seat that an old a4 can't remember the name.

Good luck. Stuart
