Did you ever manage to get the player to play MP3's? I bought a Kenwood KDC-MP6090R (of eBay) which supposedly plays MP3's however I have now made about 5 coatsers trying various ways to get it to recognise them. I have used iTunes and Nero but to no avail.

If you used itunes, they may be in AAC. Nero also recognises AAC so it might have set itself to that. Look at the disc on your computer. open the album and look at a track. then right click to look at properties. that should tell you what sort of audio file it is (AAC/MP3). If they are mp3 then i haven't a clue, but given the mess i got myself in with nero/itunes the other night i think they'll be AAC.

my solution is to use Windows media player to rip the tracks. then it's def. mp3, and it's nice and easy to arrange it all into folders etc.

having said all that, i haven't actually tested the discs yet

ps sorry if i over explained all that, but computers had me foxed for ages  .

Wasn't trying to sound condescending or anything  , but I work in IT (apparently), and although computers in theory use some sort of logic in the way they do things, I'll be bug*ered if I can work out what sort of logic that is. :? :x Hence the overly simplistic explanation. :D

Windows media player defaults to ripping in .wma..... Pish that it is. Get a plugin to encode in Mp3 at all qualities (well, this was Windows Media Player 8. WMP10 may already have native Mp3 support in decent quality - 8 only let you encode up to 64kbps.....)

yet another format to confuse me  . I must have WMP10 then(?). Got a feeling it's 128kbps to mp3. Could be wrong though :? .

WMP will let you rip MP3 at up to 320kbps. Go to tools, then rip music, change the format, then audio quality.

WMA is a more efficient compression method, and as long as you rip above 128kbps, you'd be hard told to spot the difference unless playing it back through an amp.

Very dependant on the sensitivity of your ear though.

Cool - had to source plugins on older versions (must be pre - 8, perhaps even 7) to encode Mp3 anything above 64kbps. I tend to rip at 192kbps, as 128 still artefects too much to my ear... Still, I'll admit, I'd have to quit my job if I couldn't hear the difference!

Apple just seem to have the best product.
Like the look of the iAudio X5 but can't find accessories for car use.
Sony have nice products but their software is awful.

Maybe I should just buy the ipod...better the devil you know...just hate to follow the crowd.

I have all the ipods out and my preference is the Video iPod. I Love the Nano, but battery life not great. I also have an Archos AV400 which I use mainly for Video. I have no problems with burning MP3 CDs using iTunes (You can select MP3 from Advanced Setting - Burning under Preferences). My car CD/Radio plays iTunes MP3s fine but also has a front Aux Socket so can use my iPods, Archos, DVD player and GPS audio out through the Car Stereo.

I have an inMotion IM7 Portable Stereo which works great with my Video iPod (and Nano) The Sound quality is really great and has Video out for working with a TV. Compares well to the Apple hi Fi. John Lewis had them in store for £150 which is cheaper than online and a 2 year gaurantee into the bargain.
