I was a bit shocked by the lack of performance by the 9FF TBH. The tests Ive read had it on par with the Veyron yet it came second last in 1/4 mile! and the EVO8 wasnt that far behind!

Looked like they just cruized over the finish line.

I would love to see (with subtitles) the german programs version of that feature.

9ff was obviously not launched very well. It's a 911 engine with huge turbos (bit simplistic, but that's the basic jist) so very boost sensitive. When Evo did a run at Bruntingthorpe, it only managed 5.6 secs to 60, but went on to demolish the Veyron between 100-200mph so beat the Veyron's 0-200 time. It's the old adage about power & control - huge boost & 2 wheel drive, so you get it off the line with full traction and it bogs and chugs away like an old morris marina, or you hit the boost curve and it flares and lights up the rears, so you lift, dump all the boost and it's back to marina territory again.

Remember they chose a 1/4 mile to neuter the 9ff

I can't believe that's the series over - I feel sort of cheated!

As for JK, I like the guy and was pleased he beat simeon ...

.... however

The new format SIARPC was supposed to be a set number of practice laps, and then one final timed run. It wasn;t supposed to matter if you were faster in the practice laps. IIRC, JK got his fast lap on the 8th out of 9 runs ...

Yeah, but he beat Cowell - I'd have given him 20 laps to get by that smug tw*t....

They said they are back in the autumn, so I guess they are splitting it into spring & autumn series. Less time to wait and the features can be more up to date (as they are filmed when it's off the air) perhaps?

the series did seem very very short.

Seems to have co-incided with the English school holidays starting!

Bring them back soon - there's nothing else to watch

This series was purposefully cut short by the BBC as they have the rights to show the Olympics, would have been a longer series but for that. IIRC they will be back in autumn for another shorter series

So we can watch a bunch of malnourisheds (Apart from the shot-putters) chase each other round a track, throw things or jump into a sand pit

They should at least have some sort of encouragement, maybe the top gear crew in Landys following on behind running down the last 3? Run a personal best or get squished? I'd watch that :thumbsup

Problem will be SWMBO loves to watch all of it

IMO, if they are gonna shove it sideways for something, the Olympics does warrant it for me... Massively overhyped and overcommercialised, but it's still the one competition every athelete on the planet wants to attend, so for that, it's worth most of the hype...
