Another vote against the cones - please get onto the Knockhill forum and register your views there too....

As has already been mentioned, i think that from what was said the cones are there as a measure to keep people away form the soft edges of the track until it has been finished painted etc.

I agree the cones are a pain in the ar$e, but i don think (could be wrong!) but they will be there for much longer.....

I think it was the lines on the main straight to keep them away from the bumps where the track has sunk.

The cones, i believe, was a hot hatch idea to stop people from overtaking under braking. Surely that is what the black flags are for.....

CONES ON TRACKDAYS

Firstly, Iâ€™d like to express my regret that all the posts on this website have been so negative towards Knockhill. The management have just invested over £400,000 on improving the circuit, the cones were put our on the recent trackdays due to ongoing trackwork. If the trackwork schedule is completed in time the last day for the cones on trackdays will be on this weekend's Street Legal Track Day (remembering we lost 1 week of trackwork due to severe snow). Any drivers that took the time to speak to me have been informed of this.

I Look forward to seeing you all back at the trackdays. Just a bit worried that when i take the cones away you will all be back on the wrong lines again! Don't suppose we can all be born talented!

Please remember that all vehicles must be fitted with a towing eye whilst on track. The last track night was delayed by 30 minutes due to a car with no towing eye. This is in the Code of practice for car trackdays held on ARMCO member circuits. Section F Vehicles rule 5.

And it looks like Ian Forrest has his huge head on show again....

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I didn't hear anybody saying that Mr Forrest had stated it was temporary? Also, I've never been in a KH briefing where they mention towing eyes - every one I've attended at other circuits has, but never KH.

Maybe worth mentioning they need to sort out briefings?

I personally can't be arsed joinin up another forum just to post this, maybe someone else could mention those points (esp the towing eye one)

Just sent an e-mail to him with regards to the towing eye situation.

Monday was the first time that we've had such a problem, that I can recall. The big issue was the cars going into the gravel nose first and there not being a rear towing eye - hence the fevered activity and threads about the same.

And there was me thinking the correct line through a corner was to hit the apex. I only now find out the correct line is actually 2 metres out from the apex

I must have looked a right knobend on those kerbs

Seriously though, glad to see they are only temporary.

Ian Forrest just phoned me to say that the cones will be taken away at the end of this week, and were only put there to protect the edges of the track that they had been working on and were still soggy.

He emphasised that there is no intention of using them again for any of our track days.

ps I know that his reply is usual Ian, but I think it was tongue in cheek, and he does not use smileys.

pps Reference briefings, nearly always done now by Alan or Sasha, it is always pointed out that towing eyes must be fitted before going out onto the track. A marshaller sometimes checks, but not always.

What was all the sh!te about the cones being set up ready for the hot hatch day after the HM trackday?

Perhaps Mr Forest would benefit from a customer awareness course, but as long as the cones go, we should all be happy

Answered the point about his style on Yahoo. I'm sure I'm just too sensitive about it, but being spoken to like a four-year-old (however comically it is meant) winds me up. Hey, it's not like we're 'customers' or anything

Granted - I've not been on KH since the end of last year - Towing eyes weren't mentioned then, or in any other briefing I've been in over the past five years. But if they've tightened up on it, then that's a good thing and of course makes my point totally moot.

Of course mate, it could be that they've always specifically mentioned towing eyes to you for some reason...

erm, dunno what p!sh he's on about re. 30 minutes tracktime lost due to lack of towing eye - that's simply not true. Jamie and I both had our towing eyes on - not a driver's fault if the car was designed with one eye in mind (easy shug, not that kind of eye

).

If he wants to come out all guns blazing with that sort of "we didn't spoil your fun, it was your mates and their lack of towing eye" chat, he better get his facts right!
