Right, I have wangled a day off. So, who's up for SE Extreme Snowboarding Day? Forecast is snowtastic for the next few days. Visibility might not be brill but the snow should be.
Will take you up on that kind offer Neil. Whats your plans then??
There's not much chance for XXX snowsports action in Scotland so who's keen??

I'll drive the audi, so we should get 5 folk in it no problem. Currently just me, my mate from work who cant snowboard either, and you.
everyone is welcome. Leave early monday morning, return monday night. I'm just gonna hire equipment, but there'll be room in the car for folk to take there own stuff.
You's coming then??

Tried snowboarding, not as fun or challenging as skiing, won't be doing it again. Also, doing it in Scotland is becoming a waste of time. The weather's usually sh!te, the queues huge and the snow rubbish, not to mention the fact it's more expensive than doing it abroad.

Wait and see who else is coming. so far, robin (Mr SE 1) may be coming to. He's in edinburgh aswell, so wait and see before final arangements.
will you be able to instruct 3 or 4 of us?? I'm thinking maybe an hour of instruction, then leave everyone to there own devices. (I.E. leave my mate to fall on his arse, whilst i follow you down the black runs

)
what will we need?? were all gonna be hiring board, boots, jacket and trousers. take it we need gloves. what about sunglasses, or do we need goggles??

Bring sunglasses and goggles. Chances are it'll be goggles all day if its snowing. It also helps with the light. you can prob buy cheap goggles there if need be(or even hire). Gloves as well(theyll prob sell them as well.)
I should let you know that i'm not actually a qualified instructor. i ran the lifts etc and that involves a fair amount of teaching people the tricks informally. 4 should be no probs(although i'll be a bit rusty myself). I reckon in a day i should be able to get you riding the lifts and sliding down, maybe a wee turn or two, and hopefully not falling over(too much

)
Am pretty chilled about travel arrangements so let me know what suits you. Should be good fun

I was qualified as an artificial ski slope instructor, could never be arsed doing the rest of the course to get BASI qualified, didn't see the point as I'd never use it. First time I tried snowboarding I got the hang of basic turning on both edges in about 3 hours. Never bothered with it again

its cool about you not being qualified., really just looking for someone to give me a few pointers to get started, then a few tips as the day goes on at bits i get stuck on.
I windsurfed for 12 years, was never qualified (to be honest, i'm too impatient to be an instructor) but would always help folk out if they wanted to learn bits and bobs.
always find its easier just to copy someone until i learn how to do it my own way. That kinda guidance is fine by me.
where abouts in edinburgh are you??

I have been skiing for years, usually spend a couple of weeks in USA then a couple later in the season in the alps. I have done lots of off piste stuff and heliskiing ... but... any time I have ever tried snowboarding I end up battered, bruised, and looking like Bambi after a few babyshams. Longest time spent in a standing up position could be timed in seconds. Dont think I have EVER got on and off a lift without starting or finishing face down. How on earth anyone can stand up on a surfboard in water beeats me!

Am in the centre of town. Top of leith walk behind the tescos.
I was the same as simon. was going to go down the instructor route(although to be fair i prob couln't be arsed with it all now) and then trashed my right knee - ligaments x3...ouch

swithed to boarding as i found it easier on the knees.
Through the course of running the lifts i spent loads of time helping boarders work out the drag lifts. its much more difficult on a board than skis because the tows pulling against you in the wrong direction ie skis point straight up the hill but on a board you go up sideways(front leg up the hill first, side on). have plenty of tips though.
Forecast is snow and hopefully the temp will stay down.
fingers crossed
