That anti sub bar looks really thin to me, seeings as you can bend a 1/4 steel bar by hand and impact forces are a bit higher than that! Supose it will bend not break, so might be a good thing....
Problem with seat belt bits is you only get to test them once, and you don't need to find out that it needs to be 1mm thicker at that point...

CF extinguisher bracket would be cool.
Yup, harness crutch strap mount does look a bit thin. The whole point of it is to stop the lap belt moving upwards and prevent submarining so you wouldn't want it to bend...

Ali

From what I understand of the submarining problem, all it needs to do is impede the submarining action until your shoulder straps take the load.
Even then it doesn't reassure. Unless it's a pods protection measure....
I build my projects in my room, hence no machine tools. I can cut CF by hand you see.
First attempt (No dimentions as yet)
I'll see if workshops here will knock one up in ali, I feel athat it could do with bending up off the floor slightly, 2mm CF won't take that. the second bit is jsut a space for the rear seat mount.

Richard,
Looks good.

Would it fit above the seat mounting (using the same bolts)? That would raise it up a bit and also negate the spacer.
I cannae mind what it looks like, may not be possible...

Ali

Having investigated a bit more, I reckon that angle ali would be best. I need to get an extinguisher to see how it mounts and if it'll fit though. The ribs on the ali bar across the middle of the car get in the way of anything wider than 2" or so.
Can't bolt onto the top as the runners are U shaped channel so it wouldn't sit properly without some complex shims. My plan would raise the pax seat by 1/8" or so. I'll check into workshops see if they can spare a bit of ali.

Sure, if you want to come up here, I'm away this w/e, I'm on nights this week but days next. It'll take about 1-2 hours, unless you want to fanny about to get the wheel arch liner out, which will take about a week on an S1 with rusty nuts!
Did mine thru the engine cover, just lost a bit of blood in the process. Oh and there is that stupid bolt you can't get to on the airbox. I remember that little fecker.

The one I've seen goes into the ends of the U channel IIRC.
I have an extinguisher + holder sitting in the cupboard.

Not much space in the channel? The one on the 111 site looks like that but it does look very flimsy. I have checked with workshops and they don't carry ali angle, so I have some re-search to do....

I agree, it does look flimsy.
Might just drill the floor and put nutserts in. I wouldn't want a fire extinguisher flying around the cabin...
I think the service manual may have a procedure and dimensions.

Ali

Ali,
If you need a rivinut gun then I have one. Rich I have a few sheets of 3mm aluminium sheet if you need it (Road signs).

The cross member bit looks chunky enough, it's not as if you are going to need it very often... (Hopefully!)
I'd be inclined to just drill and tap the holes, that cross piece looks pretty tough. I suspect it might be too thick for nutserts. Maybe a helicoil?
I'm still going to look at a bolt in mount under the seat mounts.
Cheers for the offer Stephen. Have you been nicking them?
