Nintendo Wii
MarioKart is in my opinion, the number one racing franchise ever. 4 mates in a room, getting hammered whilst playing Mario kart = serious fun.rossybee wrote:I'm now having a Noops momentEliseR wrote:Oh, and I don't want to start a console fanboy war, there are other forums for that....BUTrossybee wrote:And now I (err I mean the kids) are getting a Wii from Santa, any recommendations for car games?
All I can see in the Argos catalogue (classy, I know) are Need For Speed: ProStreet and GT Pro Series (not sure if this one's Grand Turismo tho)
Don't buy a Wii for mainstream games, for example, Fifa or Burnout etc. The Wii is fantastic, and I love it - but stick with Nintendo only titles or game which needs the motion control. I use my 360 for the mainstream games, hi def visuals and quality sound to boot.

Don't sink me with technobabble, dude![]()
All I want is a car game which is fun more than anything else - not looking for super-sophisticated stuff - Super MarioKart on the DS is along the lines of what I'm talkin' aboot
Wait for MarioKart Wii, shouldn't be too long. In the mean time, ge a 360 with Burnout Revenge - you will love it. Burnout Revenge is just a complete arcade racer where you smash into other cars etc, and score points for doing so. It's great fun online, I got seriously addicted for a while.
Gary.
EDIT:
Check out http://www.gamespot.com for decent reviews.

Just means waiting till it comes out. Until then, don't bother, there's plenty other games on the Wii worth playing.

Wii Racing game has to be....: Excite Truck.
Everything else currently out is either rubbish or much better on another console.
It's not the best game in the world, but should keep you playing for a while if you are a Mario-Kart-a-phile.
I'm a proper Nintendo fanboy and have had my Wii since launch.
I also have a real love for racing games and as mentioned before, if serious racers are your game, you want an xbox 360, or a ps3 and some patience. Personally I think you can't beat PGR (360) imo, but Gran Turismo (eventually ps3) will be a must buy for me.
Despite my love for all things Nintendo, and owning pretty much any Nintendo console I can get my hands on (google search: Virtual Boy
, my fave current console is the 360!
As always, the only way to cater for all tastes is to buy all consoles (although a Wii, and 1 of the other 2 should cater for most!)
The Wii is suffering the same fate as the DS did in it's first year. All games are either too short, or they have tried to force touch screen/mic (in the Wii case, flapping arms around) into every game, where really that's not the way to go. Expect some really decent AAA titles next year though.
The world has gone Wii crazy, they are pretty difficult to find. Check out the forums on http://www.hotukdeals.com people often post on there when the console is back in stock somewhere.

My lifetime console ownership consists of:
Atari (with wooden trim) - as a kid
SNES - as a late teen/early twennies
That's fecking it!
So now hopefully this clarifies my situation - no interest in buying any playstation or 360
You can probably guess that I'm not a "gamer" or whatever you young kids call it these days

Atari was cool. Snes is still the best console to date. 360 is an amazing piece of kit though, can't recommend it highly enough.rossybee wrote:My lifetime console ownership consists of:
