That sucks lucky they were spotted hope you've thanked your neighbour

Yea baseball bat, ball and glove - even the police know they can't protect you in your own home or get out to you when you call them

Must admit to liking the electric currant through the door handle ~hard to explane I know but then how does jakie/drunk/drugy explane how or why he was climbing your wall or taking a short cut over the bonnet/roof of your car

Apparantly the scumbag had been in the back garden trying his luck at the patio doors when the neighbour saw him and gave chase. What's worrying is that it was 7ish this morning and her car was on the drive... even more worrying is it was just her and our daughter alone in the house.

It happend in an area of Edinburgh which is supposed to be nice, on a decent street. It's really given me the shakes.

Thinking of getting a baseball bat for under the bed now.
Simple answer... get a dog... any dog will do...

Nothing will get past them undetected. And if the perp cant see it he wont know how big it is. I am sure there will be other dog owners who will back me up on this. You dont worry so much about intruders when youve got a thing with big teeth wandering about the house.
Well it moves... might as well make the most of it....

My old boy, when he was a youngster of around 18 months, lay and slept while we had intruderes in the house downstairs. He did wake us once the guy had left, but only because they left the door open on their way out and he was getting a chill!

Since that day till his last he became one of the best deterents know to man as anyone who has encountered him will testify.

I was broken into about 15 years ago in Livingston. One of the guys had got in a side window to the door and was just having a quick check of the downstairs before letting his pal in. I had a replica gun at hand so got the guy in the livingroom and as soon as he saw the gun he put his hands up. He then said "don't shoot, its my job"

I didn't even had any blanks in the gun so was on a bluff and the guy looked realy mean. By this time his mate was banging on the front door. I got the first guy to tell his mate to back off and I would let the other guy off. I opened the door and the pair made a rapid escape.

Police came and were fine about me using the replica gun (This was before Hungerford/Dunblane). A few days later I got called to a identification parade were I indentified the first guy.

Months later I got called to Linlithgow Sherriff court as a crown witness. The Sherriff was knicknamed No Bail, Go to Jail, McPhail. I described hearing the burglar and going down stairs to confront him. I was asked what happened and I said the man put his hands up. The Sherriff looked confused and asked me why. When I said it was because I was pointing a gun at him, there was a rumble of laughter around the court. Adding in about the guy saying not too shoot him becasue it was his job I think sealed the guy's fate. I was asked if I could describe the other person who was outside and said that I had only seen his leather flying jacket. Guess what the guy was wearing, yes the same leather flying jacket. They got put away for a couple of months.

Found out after, that later the night they had broken into my house they had attacked and seriously injured a guy outside a club. A good friend of mine, who was an ex Barlinie inmate, got a message to them to stay well clear of me and I didn't have any repercusions thank goodness.

Your house never feels the same afterwards. Prevention is better than a cure

There was bit on the news about this tonight. Basically if you feel threatened and trapped then use reasonable force, but not if their back is towards you and they are leaving your premises.

If you kill them, who's to say they were leaving at the time.

If you do shoot them in the back, just turn them over and shoot them point blank from the front - that way the shot marks on the back will be obliterated by the exit wound. You'll need to get some new wall paper though ;-)

Update- We got him!

I spoke to the neighbour last night when I got back and he told me that he actually chased the scumbag all the way down the street and cornered him with the baseball bat. He managed to pull his mobile out while he was running and call the police so they arrived shortly after and collered him.

It turns out the scum had actually been in the neighbours house already that morning and helped himself to the laptop, iPod, money etc. and was on his second pass when he was spotted.

The police found everything back at his house and returned it to the neighbour.

Talk about being greedy, he would have gotten away with it otherwise. Need to buy the neighbour a pint. Thanks for all your support guys.

Nice one :thumbsup I hope he resisted enough so your neighbour got a couple of swings in with the bat

here's hoping he gets raped in prison :D

although I guess he will be a Junkie the case will be defered (if he turns up) for social/drug reports and he will have his wrists slapped :(

Brilliant!!!

Good to hear that.

The cops caught the guy who broke into our flat last year, but it was a few months after, so all our stuff was long gone.

That's good news mate. My brothers house got broken in to and he ended up moving as it never felt the same again.

I've got a cct camera pointing out over the driveway, an ADT alarm thingy, the dog, and a sign at the front door reading "Warning Mr. Burgler, If the dog doesn't get you, your arse is mine."

My house got tanned about a week or so ago though....

It was my own fault, as we went out to dinner and left the sunbed on.
