Ok so as not to hijack the thread any further I'll stard a new topic in the meets section. I'll need to confer with she who must be obeyed first of all to get a suitable date.
I'm open to suggestions on what kind if evening folk would like but what I would propose would be a small kitty 10-15 quid each to get 2-3 special/interesting bottles and I'd open up my drinking collection as well. To keep things managable I'd suggest limiting it to about 15 people and it can be as informal or as geekish as people would like. I reckon there will be a range of tasting experience between us all so hopefully something for everyone?
I'll feed us and accomodation would be available for furthest travelled or whatever. I have a twin, a double (woody and ddtb?!) a couple couches plus the floor for campers.
Those who are really keen go visit Glendronach or Glen Garioch before which are both less than 15mins away or Speyside is about 40mins.
How does that sound?

I got my hands on a bottle of the 2012 Ardbeg Day. Packs quite a punch, but if you're into your peat monsters, a great dram.

Just picked up an Ardbeg Uigeadail based on the recommendation from the man in the shop. Anyone tried it?

Yes, I think you'll like it. I'm not a massive Ardbeg fan but did quite like the Uigeadail. Best Ardbeg ever is the 1974, rained a lot (more) that summer and so there was a shortage of peat so it's mellower than similar years.

If I'd known you don't really like Ardbeg, I'd have bought two bottles. :D

No Talisker Storm or Ardbeg Aligator in the shop on Union Street. Plenty stock of Talisker Distillers Edition, but managed to resist another bottle of that.

Has anyone tried the Balvenie 14yr old caribbean cask?

The doublewood is my staple go-to whisky and I have bottle of the single-barrel 15yr old, but have just noticed this new variant.

Just 2 weeks ago. Quite fruity but not too strong esther flavour like with some rum casks. 17 y.o. double wood released at end of last year is very nice.

Alligator available at some odbins still or now popping up fairly cheaply at auction.
Current DE DM Talisker only £50 in tescos. DE Caol ila also worth trying.

Caol Ila 18 is a favourite of mine, so I'll grab a DE this week and try that.

I'll maybe give that one a try then. I'll pick some up instead of the Oban 14yr.

Just had a wee dram of it, and while I wouldn't rate it as my all time favourite, it's certainly got a ton of class. Can't fault it at all, just personal taste. 9/10
