You know those times...

Post by Mr Spook » Sat Feb 04, 2006 12:48 am

...when you're kicking back in your smoking jacket.
Bottle of (very young) Ardbeg poised over a glass.
50:50 with water.

Not quite a 20 year old but cheaper to sup than the Bruichladdie you have hidden in the cupboard.

And then they start talking pish about big brother, coronation st., east enders. sh*t!

I find the perfect solution to be "Lightning Bolt", "Hypermagic Mountain" played at eleven on the turntable.

That is all. . .

... and now I'm replying to myself...

Just stuck "Government Commissions" by the fabulous Mogwai on, and hearing John Peels voice sent a shiver down my spine that was quite unexpected.

It was loud (might be a reason for GF going to bed).

But also just brings back memmories of my youth spent listening to the great man.

Have come to the conclusion that the majority of my posts will generaly be focused around Friday night on alcahol and music (I'll leave the drugs to the younguns).

New to the ardbeg myself and quite liked it. Recently bought a 18yr Caol Isla (sp?) at Edin airport during their £10 off if your buy 2 btls. Very smooth and almost fizzy when it hit the tongue, smooth enough for no water too.

Was in Valvona & Corollas original shop on Friday and was mighty impressed by their fine malt collection.

Maybe what we need is an SE night at the Malt Whisky Society, either in Leith or thir new place in Queen St?

I'm a member and can sign in 3 or 4 others I think - any others on the board?

They also have flats for those living a distance away http://www.smws.co.uk

They also do tastings regionally. I'll see if I can dig out the details.

(Happy to go on a whisky frenzy faction)

Must admit that after having a look around their web site, if I was still living in Edinburgh I'd join tomorrow.
Feel discusion with GF re moving back East coming on...
I take it you can just use the one in Queens Street like a drop in centre to get away from the shopping chaos. Sit in a big chair, read a paper and have a wee drink. Sounds like bliss.

I'm a member too - be careful though, the whisky in there is not cheap!

Maybe a better idea to go into the standing order and panneling their malts!

Well that's very kind of you to say so Shug.

I notice everyone has latched onto the whisky side of the thread, but no one has gone for the solution to people talking pish about crap TV programs.

I tell you there's nothing better than the warm up of the amp, the amble through the record collection (while they still blether away to the back of your head), picking something you know they can't stand, slowly lowering the needle, then cranking the amp up high.

I usualy find I then have the sitting room to just the two of us: me and the bottle! :thumbsup

Even if they shout through from the next room - you can't hear them!
