How many white S1 Elises ????

Bit of a debate on another forum regarding why white S1 Elise's are so rare. I've only ever seen one in a picture. This is the standard car were talking about not the Type 23 edition.

I didn't think it was a colour option when bought new, was it ?

If this is the case then why did only a handfull of people choose it ? wouldn't mind a S1 in White.
