£330 for a headlight cover!!!!!!!!!

Post by dezzy » Thu Mar 15, 2007 11:57 am

I noticed a crack in my headlight cover this morning. Don't remember hearing anything, but I guess it must have been caused by a flying stone. The crack is only about 2 - 3cm long, but I'm not sure if it's illegal to drive with this? (in the same way it's illegal to drive with a cracked windscreen?).

I'm not too bothered about it, so I'll just leave it if I'm not going to get done, but I thought I'd call MMC to find out how much a replacement is . . . .

£330 :shock: :shock: :shock: For a fecking bit of plastic!!?? Oh. My. God. And that doesn't even include VAT and fitting!

Do I need to legally get this replaced? Is it possible to fix it, like they do with windscreen cracks?

Doubt you'd legally need to get this replaced but I'm just guessing. Have you tried the nights at light - does it make a difference?

I reckon you'd be able to pick one up on ebay for cheaper than that!

£330 doesnt seem that bad to be honest - I mean they probably dont get that many made, and if it was a Fiesta and they made 1,000,000 per annum I guess it would be a lot cheaper.

But one from a scrapped car off eBay would definately be cheaper. As for fitting, its only 3 bolts.

I'd expect you would have to get it replaced and I'm with Ross, look on ebay for scrapped Elises.

£330-that's a joke surely, even allowing for low-volume production and silly mark-ups?!

Makes defendall seem something of a bargain..

Check out post of Zippy's car, on Ebay; breaking for spares?

Would be nice to get a part of it back to SE.

EDIT: See link: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LOTUS-ELISE-MK2-S ... dZViewItem

Although, it looks like his head light covers may be a little less than perfect now :(

Cheers Dom. The nearside headlight cover actually looks ok, so I've asked the seller if they're will to sell parts separately.

Dezzy, have you seen this thread?

Zippy wrote: It is MY car. And It's I mean "IT'S STILL MY CAR". My insurance company have gone and got rid of it without contacting me and I'm not sure where I stand with this since:
- they didn't contact me to inform me of their intention to dispose of the car;
- have not yet settled with me regarding compensation/payout;
- some of my personal belongings are still in/on the car.

So far as I can tell it's still legally my car yet they've got rid of it and now someone's selling it off bit by bit.

I'd appreciate it if anyone has insight or guidance about how to deal with this.

Cheers,
Iain.

No, I hadn't seen that. Cheers Mack. I'll obviously not take this any further now for the headlight cover.
