:thumbsup

D'you know, I have really enjoyed this thread!

I don't have a 111r, I don't have an Exige, I don't even have an S2...I've got a lowly 7.5 year old S1 whose biggest modification is essentially a pair of furry dice (fitted on Day 1 at no extra insurance charge!).

But watching the excitement, the claims, counter-claims, outcries, aspirations, speculations and general tribulations of this thread makes me realise that SE2 has really come of age...it is getting more like SE Dinosaurs once was by the day.

You gotta love it.

Campbell

PS - one of the reasons I never even test-drove a 111r was the "peaky" style of performance delivery...reported by a few trusted members of SE from their own testdrives...because I like mid-range torque rather than revs. However these ECU (and camshaft) developments have gotten me a bitty more interested again. So thanks guys :-)

So who's stumping up the cash?
Ed, Mark, JJ?

A reflash shouldn't really cost £395+ VAT but that's what it costs and nothing in this life is free.

Anyone contacted MMC to ask if they know anything about it?

If I am going to do it, it wont be until Spring, when I feel it will be useful - better weather, tracknights, runs etc. That, and I bet that in 6 months time, some other tuners will be doing it for half that amount. (And I have an A spec ECU so its £££).

If peeps are interested in the cams from what I have read on ET some have actually seen reductions in HP. Might be worth a look – they also seem to come to the conclusion that to get the best from the cams an ECU would be the way forward.
So basically everyone is keen on increasing the mid range – the ECU re-flash goes some way to improving this – if you have the right ECU. But if you want the cams especially if you have the ‘wrong’ kid of ECU for the re-flash then surely you are better waiting for the Emerald.

Spoke to Emerald today they have a Yota Elise in there which they are working on and they are still quietly targeting having it finished for Santa.

I read on PH there is a company abroad (Germany I think) which has an emerald already running on a yota engined car.

Agreed it seems a lot for a reflash, but reports from people who have had it done suggest it makes a big improvement in driveability. And to put the cost in context, many of us have spent similar amounts on a sports exhaust or induction kit which make a bit of noise but add zilch to power output (and may even reduce it if some reports are to be believed). I am probably going to have it done, but I am not in a rush - I may hang on and see what Emerald come up with.

It is always better to let somebody else be the guinea pig, though in the past it has often been myself.

If I had to make the decision (short break to roll around in mirth at the thought of his tutness owning an S2 with a jap engine in it), I would wait for somebody else to take the plunge, report on it, and preferably drive their car yourself.

Seems like a total waste to me. The 500 RPM will make no difference anywhere at any time except on track, where you may be able to make the odd better gear selection than you can at present.

If you're going to shell out the 1000 at least spend it on installing a (freely) remappable ECU!

Cheers,
Robin

Forget all your N/A tuning and go and get the motor supercharged...
Robbie dopped by this morning and I had a run in his 240CUP

Pouring rain to try the traction control, leafy wet lanes to try the ABS, Max revs to check the rev limiter and a total inability to find a road long enough to use all the gears. tut tut tuts :)

That car is so well planted and so flippin' fast that ordinary Exiges feel slow. No second cam feel at all just stupendous power. Very nice :)

He'll be at KH in the morning to demonstrate ;)
