I think it’s more likely there has been a soft top roof repair at some point. They are also not always terribly tight on tolerances when they are new … this is Lotus remember
I’m not getting the greatest vibe about this example but in the right hands it can probably shine again one day?!

Yeah you might be right. Was a good example five or so years ago. Think I need to be more pragmatic about it, which is hard!

the right cars sell quickly, like the aubergine one despite the dubious stripes and wheels, go with your head and not your heart. As mentioned above , call Craig Moncrieff and let him know you are looking, he will put you in his wee black book .

Hi Ed, thanks for the welcome.
That's very nice, but out of budget unfortunately. I'm looking on autotrader, pistonheads, Facebook and Ebay but if anyone see's anything (18k max) then please send me a link! Cheers.

Last time I will post/ ask about this car, I promise!
I thought it was still worth putting in an offer for the car of £15500 (advertised at £17990).
This is what they came back with.....
the only way we can discount the car by a large amount is by selling it as a trade sale and we would do nothing to the car at this end, and you would have to sign a disclaimer approving of this and basically you are buying the vehicle as scrap. We can do this, and the very least we could accept would be £16500
My thoughts were...
1. They were willing to sell this car with MOT and warranty so they don't think its a complete lemon
2. As a general sales garage they get decent reviews
3. This is the same situation as buying private
I would ask that a condition of the sale is for me to go down and check it out first. Then I would put it straight into Craig Moncrieff for a full service/ cam belt needs done.
If anyone had any thoughts, would be good to hear them!
Thanks
Michael

Hm
Immediate reaction is if they are willing to sell it on as trade (“scrap” is utter nonsense btw) then they should declare / evidence what they paid for it. And that’s what you pay.
I’d be walking away by now.

As well as speaking to Mr. Moncrieff, you could try Will Blackham (advertises on Pistonheads) and Jon Seal.
I have never bought a car from either of them, but they both have a good reputation on various Lotus forums and know their way around Lotuses.

Thanks, I dropped Jon a message and he sent me through a pic of an S2 he had coming in but was too much for me. It was only a base k series as well. I mentioned to Campbell I wouldn't mind a bit of a project but it's looking like a project car is all I'm going to get!

North East Auto Salvage always have - ahem - “projects” for sale. Blyth, near Newcastle I think.
But not sure I’d ever buy from them

It was actually one of his adverts that first made me think buying an Elise was a possibility! Luckily after searching the SELOC forum I am well aware of his rep and now very unlikely to ever buy from them.

If it's of any worth (probably not

) his reputation in TVR circles is unsurprisingly similar
