Seeking suspension
Seeking suspension
I've been lurking here but haven't posted for ages.
I've hardly drove the s1 for the past 3 years maybe 200 miles a year.
But my boy is now at an age where he's loving cars and he's been desperate to get out in the red car.
His enthusiasm has really rubbed off on me and has got me excited for the car this year.
It went in for an MOT yesterday and failed on various rubber joint dust covers and a wheel bearing.
It also failed with a leaking shocker.
I'm still on the original konis. They are tired and need replacing anyway. But I've been looking at prices and I'm looking to shell out £750+ for suspension alone.
Not ideal as i've laid out alot of money recently on various mundane family things so I'm in a spot just now.
So the point of this is does any one have any old koni's lying around that i could buy to get the car through its test, or anyone selling anything decent, like nitrons or billies?

Welcome back Mainsy!
Avoid the Konis. Try to find some used Bilsteins at least? I had a couple but sent them north to help out a fellow member, don't think he used them in the end so we may be able to track them down. LotusLee...I think!

Nope it was me but close!

I have 4 front and 1 decent rear Bilsteins, one other rear with a broken spring. I have these after a upgrading to Nitron 40's.
I also have a full set of Toyota spec Bilsteins with one leaking shock which I got off another member off of here.
These would go free as I never paid anything for them....you would just need to organise a courier, but I'd bag and tag them up for you if you want any of them.
Re: Seeking suspension
Hi Campbell thanks for that.
Out the sets of bilsteins Van cleef which would be the better set?
Do both sets use different adapter brackets? Are the Toyota ones longer?

Re: Seeking suspension
The rover ones are in reasonable nick and the bad rear spring is broken right under the top collar. I'm not 100% if the Toyota ones are comparable but I'm sure someone will come along with some info.
Re: Seeking suspension
I am 90% sure that the Rover and Toyota engine cars have different dampers.

Re: Seeking suspension
Bilstiens, Toyota, or Rover are from an S2 and need brackets to use on an S1. Elise Parts sell brackets for either, they are different brackets. Toyota units are longer from memory.
Toyota S2 to S1 brackets (called 111r Damper Mounts on the site)
https://www.eliseparts.com/products/sho ... er-mounts/
Rover S2 to S1 brackets (called Lowering Damper Mounts on the site as they can also be used to lower the car on normal S1 units)
https://www.eliseparts.com/products/sho ... er-mounts/
You'll also want to apply some Duralac to the back of them when fitting to the car to avoid cross corrosion as these are steel brackets going directly on to the aluminium chassis. Good news is that DIY is pretty quite and painless
