V V biased, but I'm loving my 3 door 130i as a brisk daily driver. I've resisted any mods so far, but rose-jointed negative camber etc... M3 suspension arms, m3 Anti roll bars and a set of bilsteins to sort out the ride can be fitted quite cheaply. The basic car is good, but the above would improve it. The 135i Coupe is also an interesting option with all the pace on an M135i in a few years older, cheaper, package.

Kinda have a shortlist....

Currently standing with

Might go and see this tonight as he's in Glasgow, usually from Ayrshire so a lesser treck

Love this, CSL rep, all the spec but seems a little dear and that's it after he's hake £1500 off his original price as per his advert on M3cutter forum  Bit more than I'm wanting to spend but it's spec'd well and I love the looks of it

Local but basic without nav etc also subframe not reinforced but says it has been checked and is OK
http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/ ... 03/6982742

Been offered a exceedingly nice S2 111s which is very, very tempting but not my favourite colour lol! May need to view it ;)

I almost can't be arsed with it all, I'll barely use what ever I buy as I have the company diesel for daily use so it'll just be something for the weekend, track days and holidays if I get the chance... only thing is if I don't buy something the wife will piss the money away at Costa in a matter of months.... Really needs a sense of occasion about it if it's going to be a toy..

Odd ball not overly fussed for but maybe..

Total cost over a term is gonna be low on the CSL can't see you loosing much on that. I vote CSL

I have a slightly different take on things.. Get the newest car that you can live with.. go for reliability so you can use it more...
Well it moves... might as well make the most of it....

Except it's not a CSL, just a modified M3 priced several thousand above what it's worth.

If you go down the M3 route, ignore the accepted wisdom that it must have nav and 19s.
The nav is so old fashioned these days it's not worth a premium and the 18s will be better if you intend to track it.
My ideal spec for an E46 now (it would have been different 5 or 6 years ago) is manual on 18s in imola red and non-nav to save a few hundred pounds.

One thing I would say is that if it's a sense of occasion you want, avoid the M3. You'll know that you're sitting behind one of the best engines ever made but to everyone else it's a 15year old 3 series.

The boxster is the best bet out of those I'd say.
VX220 2.2 - Gone
BMW 335d Touring F31- Fastest car on the road
MINI Cooper 1.5- More fun than the BMW

I would probably go for the newer Z4 for a hassle free experience.

Nice car for NW500 / weekends away, not so good for track.

If you want track toy, you know you need another elise!

Boxster for me all day and every day. Don't let familiarity and those slightly frumpy looks hide the fact that there's a rather special car hiding in there, much more special than you'll ever imagine until you live with one and it gets totally under your skin.

A weekend car that has both moderate practicality as well as fulfilling track duties, that won't break the bank.

Depending what is considered breaking the bank, (if it were my budget) an MX5 would be the most cost effective, whether it be a mk1/mk2 that gets Turbo'd, Supercharged, ITB'd further down the road. Or a mk3, as they've reduced in price now and are far more livable with than the earlier models.

Increasing the budget, an S2000 is similar to the above but with better performance and (depending on who you speak to) a more grown-up image. Similar to a GT86 but with a better engine and roof down motoring.

I'm not sure what Boxster is being considered, but I've driven a 2013 and absolutely loved it, like an mx5 but turned up to 11, however tracking one and the corresponding costs would put this out of contention for me.

All depends on what you really want to spend on the car and then on maintaining/tracking said car.
