Tintop Tyres (NLC)

Post by rossybee » Wed Mar 08, 2017 11:08 pm

Looking to replace the fronts on my trusty old steed (225/40R18) and looking for something mid-spec, but decent all-rounder (current cheapies are sh1t in the wet, don't want to fall down there again)

Quick look on Camskill throws up the following which have caught my eye:

Kumho KU31 (had these before and liked them)
Toyo T1R (too soft for tintop use?)
Avon ZZ5
Avon ZV5

There's quite a few other choices (Bridgestone/Hankook/Yokohama?), looking for experiences of something which lasts OK a nd performs well in the wet.

Thanks in advance :thumbsup

I fitted Goodyear eagle F1 aysemetric 3 to the BMW, pretty happy with them, especially in the wet.

Thanks Woody - def worth considering.

Uniroyal RainSport 3 caught my eye too - anyone used them?

Falken were pretty decent when the had the fk452 but I think they discontinued them and replaced hen with something else , not sure they were as good but I ran with falkens on my Z4 when I had then and the were good all round. The Khumo 31 were quite a hard tyre IIRC lasted ages where shocking in the wet after about 50% wear. What about uni royal rainsport if wet is important.

I fitted four Hankook Ventus Prime 2s to my BMW when I was looking for a mid range tyre a couple of years ago. I done a bit of research on value, ratings, reviews etc at the time and these came up well overall. Think there is now a Prime 3 range.

Quick note on Camskill. They don't, or at least didn't, have any policy on DOT code ages. Last set of tyres I ordered from them arrived and were almost 3 years old despite being a common sized premium brand. Many other suppliers state DOT code will be within something like 1 or 2 years. I've stopped using Camskill and tend to use mytyres or oponeo now.

Point taken ref Camskill.

Kumho KU39 seems to have replaced the KU31 and gets good reviews

Hectyre to the rescue again. Cracking price on KU39, supplied and fitted.

Really are the best in Dundee area, and have an online booking service now also :thumbsup

Avon ZZ5 were excellent on Evora.

Falken Ziex remain excellent on the Skoda.

Uniroyal RainExpert are on TT Quattro and seem fine too.

But I see you are sorted anyway lol

I had the KU39's on the Audi and rated them well. Good grip, but didn't last brilliantly though.

That could be my right foot and the turbo's fault lol

I did see some reviews about above average wear, but at £72 all in, not really much of a concern.... :blackeye

A few places were offering me Toyo T1R, thought them to be a bit 'track' for a diesel Volvo estate :damnfunny

Ran them on the Skoda for a while :-)

Bit soft in the sidewall I think.

I have Uniroyal RS3 on the Panda, and think they are very good. Maybe a little soft (or I drive like a hooligan?) as the fronts are near the wear bars after about 9.5k...

I have KU39 XL (I think) on the Alfa, and they seem pretty good too. A definite improvement over the Goodyear all season tyres and the Pirellis that were on there previously imo. Not been on long enough to know about wear though.
I fitted them as I liked KU31 on our old Leon Cupra.

Initial impression of the KU39 is good, and that involved a run up to Aberdeen (and back) to be vaccinated for what feels like every possible nasty disease known to man so I'm feeling gash today :puke
