Misfire and Squeeking

Post by scott.a » Fri Oct 07, 2016 7:18 pm

Having a problem with the car today - intermittently it has been loosing power at higher revs >3500. Then all of a sudden it started making a squeeking noise and it wont rev past 2000. Squaking noise is coming from the front of the engine - sounds like its the alternator.

Any thoughts?

Alternator failure? When ive had that previously (on differnt cars) the car still runs but the battery light comes on. No warning lights on the dash.

Sounds like it might have been 'limp mode' initially.

I had this where the alternator (bearing?) was about to ceease.
Idle was fine but put some revs on it and the battery light came on. So would read ok on the meter but it gave up in the end taking the belt out.
Probably worth taking it off and spinning it to see if it's rough.

Eurocarparts have got 30% off so can do an alternator for £110. Hopefully thats all it is.

Got the car to CMC - In typical style it worked fine when it rolled off the recovery truck. Leaving it there to get looked at regardless.

Picked the car up from CMC tonight. Craig had one of his guys work on it yesterday. No fault showed with it all day. Craig offered to pick me up from the gyle station after work and i drove it home without incident. Utter mystery as to what it was doing.

Great service from Craig however. Rather than just changing parts to make money he was honest and helpful. Great service as i say :)
