Good effort. While the clam is off, it would be worth changing the tow post.

Tow post looks alright. I'm just going to give it a clean up and a hammerite.

I'm with Dom on this one, RAC for me.

They have also started doing a P&L type of deal too.

RAC will not cover modified cars for P&L so no use to me, plus I think they have an age limit.

Nah its fine - ive wirebrushed sanded and filed all the corrosion off this morning and coated it with hammerite. It's not coming off the car however without a grinder! the bottom bolts are stuck solid.

It's the bottom part you need to be concerned about & there's not a great deal of it there to corrode in the first place.

Well job finished this evening - bar two bolts that won't go on the bottom of the clam. I think the captive nuts are out of alignment. Will have another go in the daylight tomorrow. Ran it up and the fan kicked in o probs. Bizarrely however it runs in the opposite direction as to how I thought it would. The air is being drawn from the top and out the front grill. Thought it would have been the other way round.

I don't know the Elise, but I can confirm my Evora fan draws the air from the front and out through the bonnet vents.

Sounds like the polarity on your radiator fan is reversed from the way it should be as on my S1 the fan helps draw the air through the front grills and then up through the vents in the bonnet.

I know the later Spal radiator fans ran the other direction from the earlier ones so maybe there has been a swap at some point in yours?

just looked at RAC P&L, looking at £80 surplus for my 03 K series. I think that might cover any potential HGF .
