Just had my last meal, no breakfast, no lunch, planning into surgery at 1330.

Anaesthetist visited me today and stayed for over an hour chatting. She was Yugoslavian, now Croatian after the split up, moved to Aberdeen six years ago, and had been treating wounded Serbians during the war, is a ski instructor, great down to earth sense of humour, so we had a lot in common and she was great company. With a bit of luck they will be able to use an internal section of artery for the bypass which would avoid taking one out of the leg, and they may also be able to keep the heart pumping and not put me onto the machine, all of which would cut down the length of time on the table.

They seemed surprised that I was not worried about the operation, not realising that I was so chuffed with having wi fi now that I was not that bothered. Was having a bet with her as to how many hours it will take before I am on my iPhone again, until she pointed out that as she was putting me under I was onto a loser.

Asked her why she could spend so much time with me as operating days are Thursday and Friday, and she said the mornings patient had died so they had time off. As I said, great sense of humour.

Going down at 1130, first op is on time. Ian just called from Canada. Kate the scrub nurse has changed her shift to be on duty, he just told me that she was a fcuk buddy of both his and Luke. He will know how it went before anybody else as she will text him. So she has had two Duncan's inside her, and she is going to be inside the third.
