This sums it up.

"Spend 2 years building car. Run it for a bit, break shaft (one of the few bits I've had nothing to do with).

Spend £1000 and a few weeks labour on replacement bits. Run it for a bit, break shaft.

Spend £1500 and a few more weeks labour on more advanced solutions, shot peening, up-spec materials, F1 consultancy, harmonic balancer, perfect dynamic balancing. Run it for a bit, break shaft.

Anyone see a pattern here? Some of you are seriously suggesting I go and buy a £2500 shaft from some engineering firm in Germany who probably already put in less effort than I have to try and understand the material stresses and loads, only to most likely run the engine for a few minutes and probably break the shaft."

My initial thought on seeing this was ' what an awesome racecar that could make'

and now I cant stop looking at it and how much I want it. lol

I bet someone could make it all work properly, not sure how straightforward it would be, but I bet once you got there it would be epic.

Fez v8 noise and a lotus chassis, the engine is in the perfect position too by the looks of it. I suppose its a little like an ultima?

Certainly looks to be priced to sell, which id bet will put some people off. I guess there is such a thing as 'too cheap'

Am I the only one who doesn't particularly like it. Like the idea and the mechanical execution looks good - But the bodywork - m'eh :?

Bodywork can be whatever you want it to be though - on this build that's the easy & cheaper bit.

I know what you mean, but I'd see it as a blank canvas - I'd imagine you could adapt S1 / S2 Elise or Exige bodywork to fit - Maybe even 2-Eleven panels, à la Frank Profera's car ?

It's a real shame he's invested so much time / effort / money in the project not to get some enjoyment out of it. :(

Amazing piece of work. A real shame the builder has got fed up with it breaking. I guess the problem is that once you have the transmission shaft sorted out - which doesn't seem like it's likely to be all that easy - you will then have to diagnose and solve all of the other things that subsequently break!

Body wise, it looks awful to my eye too. I'd be aiming to make it look as standard as possible (S1 Elise or Exige), with the usual widening / flaired arches etc. to cover whatever needs covering, obviously with appropriate holes for cooling .

Price wise, for the work that has gone in, it's probably quite reasonable I guess. The real question has to be what is the final car likely to be worth...
