Clare just got laid off from Shell from the end of May. Silly situation as she had only just been promoted and moved to the new position in Iraq. The guy who took over her job just lost it again as quickly.
However she had already decided to give up the Iraq job as she felt guilty about taking somebody else's position when she would have shortly been leaving anyway. As she is Contract she does not get any type of package, but they tried to give her a salary cut and take away her Business Flights over the phone, error, the poor man did not stand a chance. She has been given and has accepted the Google job, it is just a matter of how soon they can get her Visa through. However she flew out to Luxembourg last week for interviews with Amazon, and the MD phoned her this morning for a final chat and offered her the job. I think California will be favourite though and she can also start off in the UK or Europe with them until the Visa comes through.

Sad to lose a job but my God she's landed on her feet, well done!

I think it's very smart that Clare sought to jump before she was pushed.
It's rough that others haven't caught their own wave though.
