Put 120 bar instead of 120 PSI in a tyre. Luckily the hub bolts sheared firing the half hub through the hangar roof making a perfect circle. The hub landed outside about 100 feet away. Interestingly you don't hear the bang as your blown on your arse.

Managed to prang my mini into a kerb bending the subframe which was bashed straight. Early the next day driving to work there was a banging from the front which was to be expected so I turned up the stereo as you do  . At this point the front of the car dropped and the wheel bounced away like in the Dam Busters. It kept going for what seamed like ages right into a car dealers and through the drivers window of a Red Metro. I had not tightened up the wheel nuts. To add to the embarrassment as I am head inside the Metro getting my wheel the cops appeared. Wheel refitted it was good to go. :thumbsup

I tried to press the clutch pedal on the new car going down the A96.......forgetting that it's an automatic and just slammed my left foot on the brake. Thought I'd broken it ha ha ha

Not my mess up but one of the best car stories I've heard.

My ex brother in-law's Sierra Estate had broken down on the dual carriageway near the Whirlies roundabout in EK, it was a cold wet dark winter night about 5pm.
Sister in-law drives up in her Pajero with her dad to help, they decided it was safer just to tow the car due to the heavy traffic and dark conditions.
They hook it up and head to the Whirlies roundabout. It's very busy so my SIL waits for a gap and heads round the roundabout then up the hill towards Calderwood when there's an almighty crash!
They look back and there's the Sierra wrapped round a lamp post, then they spot my BIL running through the traffic on the roundabout :?:

Turns out he'd managed to bump start it on the tow, when they got to the Whirlies he decides to get out and tell the tow car as his horn isn't working.
Needless to say, just as he's about to chap the drivers window they get a gap and take off, with him standing in the middle of the road.

Wish I'd been behind them in the queue to witness this :damnfunny

My late father was a driving instructor and spent a lot of time teaching people with disabilities. Think it was in the late 80's that he had a Maestro automatic that was temporarily adapted for someone with no use in his right leg, therefore the accelerator was blanked off and there was a lever arrangement so the accelerator was to the LEFT of the brake.
My Dad came in one lunchtime when I was staying with them and asked if I would fuel up the car ready for his afternoon lesson. He reminded me of the disability adaptions and I jumped in the car full of confidence and started reversing out of the drive. As I was close to the gatepost I put the car in D to manoeuvre forward and it began to creep slightly so I went to dip the 'clutch' . At this point all hell broke loose the placid Maestro growled in anger and leap forward with unexpected vigour smacking into the ( thankfully close) front step of the house. At a loss as to what was happening I sat in the car with the brake and 'clutch' both pressed. The Maestro continued to scream at the top of its voice and the tyres now joined in by screaming and adding an alarming amount of tyre smoke to the equation to add to my confusion.
I remember the woman next door ( who I quite fancied) standing at her front window with a look of disbelief as I tried to drive the car through our front door. Her look of disbelief was nothing compared to the look on my dads face when he opened the front door and fell onto the bonnet of the writhing Maestro planted on the front step.
I eventually realised my error and lifted off the clutch (aka throttle) and normality was restored. There was actually remarkably little damage done by my escapade - the Maestro lost a bit of paint and a few thousand miles worth of rubber off the front tyres and the front step was always a bit shuggly afterwards but otherwise the main damage was to my pride.

I'll share this, but it's so long ago I can't believe it actually happened to me.

I had a Citroen AXGT, bought with my first months pay, my pride and joy. However It was really poor in winter conditions, so I often arranged a lift from Braemar up to Glenshee if I had to take the AX skiing. I was dropped off in Braemar by a friend after a day at Glenshee, there had been heavy snow and my friend would follow me just in case one of us had difficulty in the weather. So I set off, at reasonable speed for the 2-3inch snow coverage. After a couple of miles I found the conditions were very slick, the car was sliding on straights and I was having to correct all the time (using a technique I had perfected spinning the front wheels). I couldn't believe it was this slippy and was about to stop, when I passed a crashed car confirming just how bad it was. So we continued with the journey I was starting to hold up cars and tried to push it up to 40mph, but control was way too difficult. After many slides later until we eventually got to black tar. After half a mile on the black tar the rear wheel punctured. All was clear, the rear left had not turned in 18miles. My friend who was following had noticed the sticking wheel, but thought I must have realised and decided I was happy to continue rather than flashing. Fortunately cars had spare tyres in those days,
