Merc gave Lewis and his side of the pitwall free rein on strategy yesterday after the criticism after the previous race In Brazil.
Except Lewis wanted to stay out and 1 stop and the engineer wouldn't even do the sums - so he didn't have his free choice of strategy; of course his tyres would have been shredded by the end but he would have swerved like a drunken snake to keep Rosberg behind and that would have been entertaining. He didn't care that it was a low probability result - what did he have to lose? What did the team have to lose (who cares if they score a 1-2 yet again - does it make a difference at this stage of the season?). People drone on about tyres and cliffs and what have you, but some drivers get lucky and drag a set of tyres through 50 laps without losing 5 seconds a lap and that was a risk I would have taken in Lewis's shoes.

Robin

The Sky commentators were talking about the fact the MB were keen for a 1,2 finish, in order to achieve the statistic of being the team with the highest score ratio from available points in a season (something like winning 86% of available points to beat McLaren's record held since the 80's).

The other factor for not running tot he end might have been a safety issue - would he have suffered a blow out if he tried to go that far on them?... :scratch
