Chooks end.....
Re: Chooks end.....
The guy I get my Christmas turkey from has a couple of alpacas guarding the grazing turkeys from the hungry foxes, only thing is they'll be out of a job soon!

Re: Chooks end.....
We got some chickens this year, and I thought it'd end in tears as we are on the edge of the woods and have had plenty of foxes about, to the extent of having a family of 4 living at the bottom of the garden, who lounged about as if they owned the place. Got a great wee Collie last year and haven't seen a trace of them since though. Same goes for the deer. Dog seems to guard the chickens as if they were his own. He's not outside 24/7, so I assume his scent is enough of a deterrent. That might change over the winter if the little buggers get hungry enough, but as we're not properly rural there's probably easier pickings around- hopefully.
The other weird thing is we used to be over-run with mice in the house when we had a cat (now deceased). Haven't seen a trace of one since we got the dug.
The irony is he's a big feartie who'd probably try to befriend anything that came around

A secure run, with the fence buried at least 6 inches is your best long term solution.
