Fuel Economy for V6 Exige (and Evora NA and S, and Elise S)

One of the reasons I didn't like my Evora S was the shocking fuel economy. I was never sure if it was my car or if it was just what the engine did. Typically I got around 14mpg (without being daft) and even at a steady 70mph with the cruise on 20mph was almost impossible.

I am now wondering about another new car but would like to know what people are genuinely achieving for fuel economy.

Can anyone with an V6 Exige S let me know what mpg to expect? Also what does the new Elise S get in MPG? And purely out of interest what does the N/A Evora get for mpg?

I had a N/A evora and occasionally manged 30mpg, you can feel your life draining away when you drive like that. Once you wise up and snap out of it, you'll achive an invigorating 20-25 mpg.

What you need is a VW engined lotus, they claim to do 100's of mpg.

What I am actually trying to work out is that since I work at home, and do very few miles (around 4 or 5k) could I have one Lotus as a daily driver. In the past they have always been a second car. At 14mpg It would have to remain a second car!

I have averaged 27mpg over 5k miles in an Evora NA. Never had more than 30mpg or less than 24. Noticeably higher on motorway option of my daily commute. My last NA averaged just over 28 - probably had that for around 5k miles too so both fairly consistent

20mpg = 4.5m/l

1l fuel is £1.05 (say)

5K/year at 20mpg = 1200.

Meanwhile you could own a nice economical VW diesel, say a Passat that does 45mpg = 10m/l ; diesel costs more or less the same per litre at present so that's 525.

Now apply man maths. Any newish Lotus you buy that isn't brand new will depreciate negligibly over 5K. Your Passat will be worthless within seconds of buying it. The Lotus is cheaper. Buy one.

seen 37 mpg on my evora n/a ..it doesnt have the cr box:-) love the car... sitting on the motorway about 1800 rpm:-) when i want to play on back roads 2nd and 3rd gear are fine. the std box suits its GT role:-)

I'm averaging 28 mpg in my std / long box na evora. I'm an 80 mile round trip to work and ive done 12k in 16 months. Best tank was 34, worst 23mpg. All are calculated, not off the dodgy 'puter

Av just under 30. I am careful particularly where there's no fun to be had. But I don't hang about when opportunities present either. And I have utterly loved every minute.

Lowest in that graphic is on track in France.

Highest is en route there and back. At between 75-90 mph. Yes really.

The trick is to use cruise control, a light foot and a bit of lift-and-coast.

Consider that our MINI Clubman Cooper managed 40-ish on mway, 34 round town and tank averages around 37, the Evora is truly stellar given what it is.

A very useable only-car, IMHO.

Buy one. NA version, of course.

Oh and I can run you a business case on the "Evoranomics" which will convince the missus. It worked on mine so it must be watertight...

Must agree the the fuel economy is pish when driving normally , though I am not sure what performance engine is good on fuel. I am only 12 miles from work and using the Evora for work felt like wasted mileage, now have a 1 litre 50mpg econo mobile for the dead miles.

Last year I drove down South and got high 20's from the S. The map was then changed to fix an issue with the air con locking out and fuel economy dropped to low 20's.

Working out the true mpg is maybe a bad thing and tyre cost per mile is just madness.

I average 27mpg in my v6 Exige. I can manage 29/30mpg on a longer run.

Part of my reasoning when I bought the car was that petrol is unlikely to ever be this cheap again. As Robin rightly pointed out, of you are only doing a few miles a year the cost differential is less of an issue.

My commute is 50 miles round trip. If it were only an handful I would use the Exige more regular as it a comfortable cruise. The addition of cruise control hasn't even made the motorway portion of my commute quite bearable.
