Fairly balanced - limited data about the way accident statistics are collected.

Does make you think about slowing down.....

At my company it has been organised that the Police will come and do a presentation on safe winter driving....please tell me it will be more than more distance between cars and drive slower!

There is a big crack down on speeding in Grampian since it has now become the area in Scotland with biggest road deaths...check the news..it's mostly under 20's driving rusty old Fiestas.

They've done a presentation at my work the last few years. It's worth going at least once, good stuff on observation etc. but probably nothing you don't know already.

Cheers,
Ali

IMO traffic cops are the scum of the earth.
Only cop that I have ever met who had a understanding and interest in motoring was that guy who attended the SIDC trackday in Alford with the scooby.

99.9% of traffic cops trying to do you.

I'm probably being bitter but when I was stopped recently I reckon I should of been given a lecture and a warning on speeding given the road conditions on a mile long straight. Instead I got 3 points and a £60 fine without any chat about road safety. Had no other interest other than giving me the points.

Most people hate the traffic boys. I cant say i like them much myself. But when you think about it, it's not like they're standing getting all excited waiting for you to come along. The way i see it is that it's just their job to enforce the law. The law states 60mph on a bit of road, the coppers gaffer then tells the guys to get out there and monitor speeds. It's just their job. If someone breaks the law, they get fined. Thats it. We all know the speed limits, and there's guys out there to enforce them. So the way i see it is, you speed and dont get caught = bonus. You speed and get caught = bugger, i knew the law and i broke it and got caught. No bitterness on the guy who caught me.

When i had my sportsbike the speeds on some of the runs with the quick boys were sometimes 30 - 40 mph short of 200mph. (and i'm not commiting myself to say it was me :P ) You think it's safe enough at the time, long sunny straight (of un named road  ). But if it goes tits up. These cops have to come and scrape you up from the countryside and tell you family whats happened. And i cant imagine thats a pleasant job at all.

I'm prob just getting old. Just thought i'd add my thoughts. :D

Find myself agreeing with you in principle Gordon, but the problem is the attitude 99% have. Have only once been done by a copper who had a decent attitude.

The majority have come on like I was running about holding a pair of scissors, pointy end out!!

That's the attitude though "You're a naughty boy and you have to be very nice to avoid me sending you to jail" </smug>
