Next time we visit the house I will pay more attention to the GSHP, and also try and get a figure for the running costs.

He did say that he had 10 x 50m trenches dug for the underground pipes.

I quite like the idea, but trying to find someone who has had real life experience of them.

Have you looked at biomass? I have just had a pellet boiler installed and the RHI payment is very good. It has just dropped a little but still very worthwhile.

If you install PV's or a turbine to generate the electricity to power the GSHP the heat generated would be totally free.

If you're not living on the edge you're wasting too much space!

Hi Iain,

Already have a GSHP installed through you, when you were at Ecoliving :thumbsup

Just trying to get my RHI sorted, it's amazing how difficult it is to get an SPF calculation done, but hopefully should have it this week.

That's what my RHI is going to be spent on, solar PV, I wish I installed it at the same time as my GSHP.

Hi Kev,

Great to hear you got on well with it. If you're needing SPF calcs, we do this (for a modest fee) and then the online RHI application is a breeze. Your SPF will need to be done by an MCS accredited company to be valid, but give us a call if you need any advice :)

Thanks, the installer hasn't been very helpful regarding the SPF calc, but fingers crossed I should get it by the end of the week, only taken about 7-8 months  I contacted a number of companies, who are MCS approved and surprisingly no one was interested in carrying out the SPF calc and said the installer has to do it, even after telling them that wasn't true according to ofgem. Shame I never knew you started your own business.

It'll will be probably next year before we look at PV, unless you can talk me in to something better

Any installer can do SPF's if they're willing, we've happily done a fair few for installs we didn't carry out, and of course all those we did. Yeah, I incorporated the company in April 2010, but didn't start trading until I left Ecoliving at the end of August 2010. We're 11 staff strong now with our own complete workforce of trained engineers so it's all heading the right direction. We cover ground and air source, biomass, PV and solar thermal. We offer everything as a complete package, from design through supply & install to annual maintenance. We've done a few high profile installs too and have just been awarded the contract to fit out the brand new renewables training suite in the Inverness College building :)

Just had a long chat with Iain, we used to have the timmsky/tut chat show back in the old days, but time marches on, well for most of you at least.

Asked him about PV panels if I could get them for free or with a WP grant to work alongside the GSHP, and he gave me the following answer.

Not a prob, Iain. We encourage genuine attempts to develop a business where the plugs are properly on-topic :-)

Do consider something for the SE Offers forum if you feel able.

Welcome back. Thrilled to see business going well!

Sorry Mike, I was on the other line when you called, hopefully Chris was able to help you out.

Give me a shout if you need anything else in the meantime, but when Jim comes to survey the property he will be able to guide you through the best system and we can get you a full system design & quote :thumbsup

Cheers,
Iain
