Allroad bi turbo or X4. ?

BMW 330d or 335d Xdrive Touring? Both stunningly capable all round cars and you could assure your wife that they will be most un-BMW like on wet roundabouts and snow
. The 330 is sub 6 seconds to 60 yet still returns over 40 real world mpg - amazing. Mind you, I'd take a 2wd Alpina D3 any day.

Mike,
Have a 335D X-Drive and absolutely love it for motorway blasts or cross country roads. A slight failing is the X-Driver springs but that can be sorted with some ACS replacements which seemingly transform the car. Something on the to do list eventually!!!
I very much doubt you will get any test drives as BMW dealers tend to have the stock models as their demo's. However give Chris Bunch at Eastern (Edinburgh) a shout as they may have a demo (used him for our 335D and was excellent). Alternatively give BingoKing a shout as I am sure his son works at a BMW dealership.

I have read quite bit on the BMW forums about the xdrive springs. It does seem odd that BMW made the xdrive softer and slightly higher riding than the 2wd drive 3 series Msport - its not like it has any pretentions of being an off roader. The ACS springs sound like a good and inexpensive fix, but I wonder if that would bring insurance hassles with 'modifying' the car?douglasgdmw wrote:Mike,Have a 335D X-Drive and absolutely love it for motorway blasts or cross country roads. At least with ACS springs your warranty is intact due to the relationship that ACS have with BMW.
However agree that it should be declared to your insurance company however I doubt very much that any insurance company would be able to tell. Also read that the M-Drive springs are now available as an option in the X-Drive but suspect the ACS are the better option.

I had a 320d with the 7 speed ZF box, touring, in an x-drive as a courtesty car, it was a great car, didnt even feel like it lacked power, but if it was me buying i wouldnt have anything smaller than the 330/335,
Well worth a look Mike, I think Ruth would be impressed, Claire loved it and she, like ruth has been subjected to E30 antics
Also worth adding the bootspace in the F30 touring is quite alot more than previous models, or at elast a more useable space - ideal for the Dogs IMO.

I'd get a Cayenne Mike - best of both worlds and feels way more car like than the Rangie.
Mrs G would most probably have one if it wasn't going to sit in car park at Drem train station everyday and get scratched, dented and bumped etc. Love it.
Still quite fancy an RS6

One of our work pool car is a Cayenne GTS. Echo the car-like opinions, and it definitely pulls well. Very comfortable, in an elbow on the window sort of way. I'm not used to filling a vehicle twice in one day though...

I love mine - it seems to just package ballistic performance into an everyday usable car perfectly. My wife loves it too, even though at first she struggled to grasp the concept of a 2 ton wagon being faster than a 2 seater sports car.
They do everything very well, except for the B road twisties and even there they're not exactly shabby. The new C7 is supposedly quite a beast and would certainly be on my short list.
Arriving broadside, in a cloud of smoke......

my sister in law (well my brother) has just had a SQ5 for the weekend as a demo and is buying one.
He's away to sell his Cayenne and buy a car (Caayman or M4) so the wife needs a bigger 4x4 for the dogs.
